Need Help

Question:
I was contacted by a woman a few minutes ago in Edmonton. She is looking for a home for her chinchillas. I have agreed to take them, but I need help transporting them to me. I can drive as far as Reddeer, but my mom won't go any farther. So I was wondering if there was anyone who could help me out with getting them to me.

Just for some more info because I know you guys will want to know everything about them, they are two females and are both 8 months old. One is a beige (I'm not sure if it is hetero or homo) and the other is a silver mosaic. As all of you know, I have been searching for a female silver mosaic FOREVER, actually only about 6 months, but it seems like forever

Answer:
Courtney, another issue with driving? Is your mother going to be willing to drive you to the vet to have these chins checked out after you get them...or even more important, if they should ever get sick?

I am not trying to be rude, but it worries me that you are acquiring all of these new chins when you have had issues just getting to the vet before.

Answer:
I asked my mom about all of that stuff. And she said she would drive to the vets and stuff. Our exotic vets in Airdrie, whom I have gone to before and I really like, has started doing emergency service 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We also found a good place in the northwest that does exotice animals just in case. She just doesn't want to drive to Edmonton in this weather. Who can blame her? I certainly wouldn't want to drive to Edmonton on these roads.

Answer:
And is she willing to pay vet bills should you not have enough cash to do so? One chin has cost me over $700 in bills...what if it were a contagious disease and all 7 (maybe soon to be 9) or your chins were affected? Do you have a plan in place should this happen?

I have logged onto CnQ for the first time in a long time and I have found many posts from you in the Classifieds section either asking for more pets (not just chins) or inquiring about more pets. It confuses me that not too long ago, you couldn't afford to get your chin to a vet but now you are acquiring (or hoping to acquire) new pets. Could you please explain to me what type of plan you have in place for emergency vet funds? Thanks.

Answer:
I have a vet fund in place for all of my animals. I think there is about $1000 in there right now because we got the rest of my moms inheritance from when my grandma died. My dad is also putting in $100 a month, and I am putting in between $150-$200 a month. So it is steadily growing.

I thought I only had one post asking for more chins on CnQ, I also inquire about other animals so I can get to know other breeders and figure out shipping costs from certain places. My mom told me after Whiskars died that she will help me out more and lend me cash, drive to vets, etc. Too bad it took losing a chin, but at least now I know she is in my corner, as she drove me and Elijah to the vet a few weeks ago when Brooke bit him on the nose.

Answer:
That is good to hear that you are starting to establish a fund. $1000 goes VERY fast when you have a sick chin. What if the bill is more than your vet fund?

Also, this vet in Airdrie...why weren't they open when you needed them last time? It was a weekday and during the day. Perhaps you also need to find an emergency clinic in Calgary because it doesn't sound like the vet in Airdrie can provide service during normal hours even.

Answer:
As I said before, my mom and dad are now way more involved and willing to help out. I have found an emergency clinic in Calgary, at first I wasn't sure if they looked at exotic animals, but I called and she said that the 3 vets there all had lots of experience with chinchillas.

Forgot to mention that my dad has a new job that is paying LOADS. Last month he made 13 000 and the month before it was 10 000 So I am adding to the fund, my dad says he will put more in my fund now that we have some money of our own saved up. He wouldn't tell me, but I have a feeling its alot

Answer:
Do you mind posting the link? I have an emergency clinic in the south but it wouldn't hurt knowing about another one. So the one in Airdrie, what's the deal with that? Why weren't they open? I would be very concerned about that.

Answer:
I thought they were open but her mom wouldnt drive her or pay for it??? Then Candice when you offered to driver her,,,it was to late and the chin was already dead???? Im sorry if thats wrong

Courtney, I know you are excited about the silver mosiac,,but do you know anything about these chins,,,,are you going to breed them???

Answer:
Oops, yes, you're right Brandy. The vet was open but doesn't take payments. In that case, you may need much more of a vet fund than you imagined. Two emergencies in my house, one with my cat and one with my chin, nearly cleared out my fund. I do have additional credit cards should they be needed...are you able to use someone's credit card?
