Don't Smoke!!!

Question:
Conclusive evidence has now linked cigarette smoking owners w/ cats developing lymphoma, a very dangerous illness. Apparently cats ingest the chemicals the cigarettes release into the air when they are grooming themselves, & then their lymph glands grow out of control. Lymphoma symptoms include weight loss, nausea, vomiting, beathing problems & kidney damage. (prevention magazine)

Answer:
Yucky. That's why I don't smoke in the apartment. Don't want to hurt my fur babies.

Answer:
That's ironic, Jason and I were just talking about this the other day. We both agreed that owners should not smoke in their houses.

Answer:
I think this should go for any pet owner. I find it repulsive when people smoke around their pets. If second hand smoke is dangerous for human beings can you just imagine what it does to animals?

Answer:
Exactly Denise. I made the (bad) choice to start smoking. My boyfriend and friends make the choice to hang out with me when they know I will be smoking. But pets don't get to make that choice. I go outside in the sleet and snow but I'd NEVER smoke around my babies.

Answer:
wow, thats interesting.. Im glad that no one smokes in the house here!!!

Answer:
I agree. Pets do not even know it is bad for them, except if the smoke itself bothers them.

Answer:
Josh started smoking since before I met him (he started at 13) so when I decided to be with him, it meant being with the smoke as well. Considering what else it could have been (drinking problem, drug problem, wifebeater ) I'm happy it's just smoking.
What we do is compromise, he smokes in our room but he also ventilates the room, buys the odour absorber. Right now he's set up an exhaust fan to let the smoke out of our room. I could throw a fit and make him smoke outside but he smokes a pack a day which would mean he'd be outside A LOT. I don't like smoking or agree with smoking but I know that it's an addiction and considering the addictions he gave up when we got together, he deserves to smoke. Maybe later on down the line he will be able to give up smoking altogether.
But for now, he smokes in his designated area and the pets are in another area. The fishtank has a cover so I'm not worried about smoke getting in there. When Keesha & Ally were here, I insisted on lots of ventilation.

Answer:
I was a bit of a hypocrite for a few years because I would not smoke in the same room with my rats and yet would smoke around the cats! True, the rats were more sensitive to it, but the poor kitties....smoke is smoke, after all. That's one of the things that is keeping me smoke free (it's been 7 months now!!) -- my critters' health comes first.
