Tigs has Diarhhea (sp??)

Question:
well i shouldnt really say diarhhea because its not,,its more like soft poops,,,that squish easy...and they seem to be covered in some sort of slime
Now so do you guys have any idea what this could be?? hes had it for 2 days, not getting better,,not getting worse,,,I am going to totally clean their cage today so I can see what its like today, is their anything i can give him at home to help this or does it have to be taken into the vet!!
nw heres my problem,,,my vets are not chinchilla knowledgable, I wil lof course take him to Dr.Lepine if I have to,,,but i am wondering even if they dont know anything about chinchillas,,,,,would i still be able to take a stool sample in and have them check it for different things???
I am going to call when they open but thats not for another 2 hrs

Answer:
Have you given him burnt toast?

Answer:
yup and he refused to eat it,,Deja ate it tho but her poos are perfectly normal

Answer:
We usually find our chins will get soft poos when they are stressed...if something changed (the routine, their cage etc). We have found the best and quickest way to get rid of soft poos is to put them on an all hay diet (no pellets). We also give them acidophilus (either yogurt or acidophilus with pedialyte). In the past before we used the all hay diet we also gave them burnt toast which is said to clear it up.
My recommedation is as long as Tigs continue to eat and drink well and is energetic, I would try the all hay diet until you notice that his poos are getting better, then slowly introduce the pellets back to him. if they don't get better or there seems to be more wrong with him, I would take him to the vet and have a fecal analysis done.
I hope he is feeling better soon!

Answer:
ok thanks Darren,,,,,will any yougurt do?? does it have to be a certain flavor??
I have Danon yogurt here,,it is 3.5%MF,,,,,,thats what the kids eat,,,will that do or should I go out tonight and buy something different?
yes he is still eating, pooping, doing everything normal,,,bothing has changed in the cage at all,,,,,,,,,I am thinking Deja might be pregnant,,,dont know tho,,could he be stressed over that??
oh something has changed between them,,,,we have an igloo and a pine house in their cage.....Deja used to sleep in the pine house, Tigs would sleep on the upper shelf,,,now they both sleep in the igloo,,which is odd
and will it hurt Deja if I put her on an all hay diet as well??? or should I seperate them and only put Tigs on the all hay diet?

Answer:
oops,,I mean Amanda

Answer:
Don't feed him yogurt that is full of sugar. That will only make it worse. I would first suggest removing pellets and feeding all hay. Is he drinking/acting fine? Did he eat something during playtime?

Answer:
he is acting totally normal,........there was nothing he could eat during play time, my bathroom is all ceramic tile and there was nothing but their apple branches and wheel in there
so by feeding him all hay,,is this going to harm Deja???

Answer:
Feeding only hay will not harm either one of them....we have found that separating our chins causes more stress. Just give them lots of hay...we usually give them loose and hay cubes.
I agree that you should not feed the chins too much yogurt with sugar...that is why we have switched to acidophilus+pedialyte (also helps to replenish electrolytes lost with the wet poos) but if yogurt is the only thing available, we will use a little of it. if you do use yogurt, don't use any pitted fruits (cherry, peach). ours like blueberry and strawberry.
But first I would try the all hay diet and see what happens.
Our joey had wet poos the other night...his mate is pregnant and I joked that he was getting nervous about being a first time daddy after one night on all hay, he was back to normal good luck!

Answer:
ok thanks guys.....as soon as the boys go for their nap in an hr,,i am cleaning the entire cage again and only outting hay in there,,,,,,i will let yas know how it goes
