weesie's kitties (a catch-up for lankakitten)

Question:
ok, i had

deshie-a approx 1 y 9 mo grey who showed up stray outside my my house and became mine
trey-the 1 yr 8 mo marmalade and white tom who is my heart. he came from a shelter as a companion for deshie
cyrus-a 3 yo siamese mix that mel got me from a different shelter as a companion for deshie the exact same day not knowing i was getting trey. i had seen him and liked him, but then feel for trey the second i touched him and chose him instead. cy's previous daddy is in iraq, or atleast he was.
dusty rose- a 3 yo eal point siamese with the crookie tail and crossed eyes that i got for my birthday. she was supposed to be a male meezer kitten as i dreamed of...but being who we are, we found out about an abused and neglected 2 year old girl with health problems so......
pheonix-this 1 yr 9 mo guy was in a 6 day kill shelter about 3 hours north of me and a person on one of my siamese groups offered to pay all of his fees if i would just get him. he is a longish haired siamese flame point boy.
damascus- a full blooded spotted (not rosetted) 7 and 1/2 yo bengal boy who was kept in a breeder cage for 5 years straight.
tisconi-an orange and black sparkled marbled 10 and 1/2 yo bengal full breed bengal-both bengals came from a woman who had to go into assisted living and needed to leave her cats behind and begged me to take them. there was a third, whom went to a single cat home due to her severe anxiety.
abbey- a white and blue approx 6 or 7 mo tabby girl whom i took possession of from some people who were feeding her and her sister non dairy coffee creamer with an eye dropper and her sister died. i had to nurse her and she is now my little sharkitty, being quite a destructive kit.

here were my eight. then i was fostering patch, and her 2 older kittens sassy and shylo and then she gave birth to 6 more shortly after arriving. one did not survive and the other 5 as well as their older siblings and their mother went to a seperate foster system in a larger town and then to new homes. so i was back to my 8 and staying there.....then......

pheobe- was abandoned in an apartment in st louis when her owner moved to california. the new apartment tenant agreed to help with relocation and then promptly gave her a very short time limit or a death sentance. she is very scared, a little temperamental and 14 years old. i ended up with her rather than see her die. she is a almost toally grey dilute cali with just a touch of orange here and there and two small patches of white on her belly. the new tenant had not fed her, sold or trashed her toys, play gym, littermaid, etc, and she came to me drugged up and hysterical. her arrival included stitches (um, for me).

and now we have gotten to....

army-army is about 3 and an orangey torti point/cali/tabby kind of mix. army was listed on a freecycle list along with a few other cats and her particular plight just kept pulling me back to her listing. i suggested, as i do with all of these type of ads, that they list them with adpost, petfinder, their vet, etc and to watch for collectors, people wanting critters for dubious means like cruelty and selling them to labs. this one just kept writing back and the more i heard, the more concerned i became. army is shy and sweet-she is the biggest kisser i ever met!. she is declawed and was inside and out and fed cat food from aldis, not been to the vet since she was declawed, etc...and being abused by their other cats, their toddler, and the neighborhood animals etc. they said she was refusing to eat and other things. i went to meet her and knew could not leave her. she is now up to date on shots, tests are clean, and she is a little hissy with a few of the cats (i am thinking there is a resemblance between them and remembered tormentors). and the more i watch her and check her the more grateful i am i took her. and i am still in contact with the old owners and they love her, no doubt...but their actions could have and no doubt would have cost her her life.

they have another they want to find a home for that is even shyer, same issues. i am looking for a home for him as well. i think he could not handle life here. he is traumatized. i told her to keep me in mind for him befoer she did anything drastic and he may yet come here until arrangements can be made for him. he was a beautiful orange tabby. seemed healthy, but so terrifed.

so, there you have it, 10 kitties. i have arrangements with my vet for emergency bills over $150, and each cat is on a rotating month schedule for checkups and i buy huge dog things of frontline plus and divide it up for flea and tick protection and my animals are inside only. i use regular litter and feed chicken soup for the cat lover's soul which i get a huge discount on by buying in bulk from the company after contacting them about their ingredients etc. the biggest expense in this house is the cats, by far. not to mention, everywhere i go, cat toys, glider toys, bunny toys, you name it. i think my kids wonder if i gave birth to them or the animals. lol

do any of these kitties ring a bell, lanka? until i get a new cam, no new pics...but here are some of each except pheobe, which i can not get in front of the webcam.

ok, these pics are abbey, army with my daughter
cyrus, and damascus with deshie behind him

Answer:
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, i want a real digi cam!!! i was gonna get one with my walmart cash card i got for my birthday and i keep making plans for one....but i always find other things for the money. i hate to spend on myself.......

and i don't think the kitties think it is for them, so i can't quite convince myself it is for them either. sigh......

Answer:
Investing in a digicam is a good idea. If not for yourself, then for us (and the kitties...a few of them look like hams!)

Answer:
This is the greatest thread ever! Thank you, Weesie, so much for this!
Having only 2 (whom I love like it's the end of world) but with a secret desire for more, I can only live vicariously through wonderful, wonderful souls like you (and Lixx and Shadowlark).

How random that Mel (husband?) brought home Cyrus the same day Trey came home. I mean, is that fate or what?

It's totally amazing that Dusty Rose and Phoenix were emergency rescues - that is so commendable I should buy you a digital camera!

What luck that Damascus and Tisconi found you! So you knew their original owner? Did she fess up that Damascus was kept in a cage for so long?
Also, were you concerned about already having 5 cats at home? Or was it a no brainer?

How did you first learn of Abbey's situation? What monster would feed cats non-dairy creamer? That's cruel!

Oh geez, Phoebe! Poor old girl shouldn't have had to deal with that! That sucks so bad.

And Army - how irresponsible of his original owners! Thanks for stepping in there.

Was it a fight to keep any of them or was Mel always willing and ready to help? Did you consider foster homes or anything for any of them?

Abbey and Dusty photograph well in webcam form.

Thank you so much for letting me know about your kitty cats, they are all so very special.

Answer:
actually, mel is my girlfriend, well, ex, we ahve been apart 4 months now. and she has four of her own at her house. lol. and here is the laugh for you...
i hated cats. (well, not hated, just never knew any that weren't mean, to be honest)
never wanted one (except i always wanted a siamese..bu that was a childhood thing, ya know)
ever
my youngest is one of those kids that has 80 reasons a night he can not sleep...one night it was that a cat outside was keeping him up. i said, "very original-go to bed." but mel went to check. there was a cat meowing. she went outside and called and this little grey bundle of fur came barreling around the house and into her arms. she brought it in and into the bedroom to show me and to check the sex. i was laying down on the bed and said, ah, wow, pretty-and went back to reading. the kitten crawled up on my chest, laid down on me, and proceeded to knead my chin and lick me. i started petting her and it was love. i had ferrets then, so mel went and got cat food and litter and water, said, love you, night, enjoy your cat, and left. i started yelling, come get your cat. she just laughed as she went home.

i was in a panic. so, i did what i always do. i got online and researched. for hours.

then i did the dumbest thing ever.....

i bathed her.

rotflmmfao

then she and i came back to bed and cuddled and she kneaded some more and i called mel to tell her i made her purr. lol

for the first two days, her name was LGK (little grey kitty) then deshie just came to mind while i was showering and it stuck. everyone tried to talk me out of it but there it is.

with each one, i swore no more so trey and cy and desh were my limit. hehehe, what a fool i was!

mel has four gorgeous cats, i'll post their pics here. i love her siamese snowshoe, mocha, and i always loved siamese, so thats how dusty came to be. then it was no more after my three and my dream meezer but then pheonix was going to die if i did not do something. as it was, the animal officer paid his fees and i paid him back, thats how close it was. and i did get him thinking he would be a foster...but he just wormed himself into my heart.

as for my bengal boys, i thought i was keeping all three and i did have my reservations, but vicki was making herself iller over worrying about them and so it was a labor of love for my friend and i did love her cats. it killed me to place louellen with someone else, but she was way too anxious to be with other animals and children. it was best for her. vicki is not the one who kept damascus in a cage, she is the one who rescued them. i just took up her love and responsibility when she had to lay it down.

pheobe has had a tough life, but she is spoiled here. and will be until the end of her life. and miss army has my daughter wrapped, so no worries there either.

abbey's situation is one of those stories that make you want to cry more than any other i think, because there are still animals in that situation. i know these people personally. i have written about them before. and, before i knew them well enough, i even adopted ratties out to them. they ARE the dreaded animal collectors. best of intentions but no means, little knowledge or committment or consideration. they always get animals and then they die or they pass them along later on. the ratties i adopted to them all died in a myriad of ways, and they have passed on to me in the past a few rabbits, a chinchilla which they then stole back and subsequently died, and some degus, and a toad. they always have cats and dogs and birds etc galore. they once came with several cats they wanted me to take. one had an infection so bad in its eye that the pus shot out on me when i went to look-and i was told it had been that way since they had acquired it as a stray. the other cat had the runs so bad it cried and i had to disinfect everything and call the vet for my babies, and then there were abbey and her sister. and they were so proud to show me the two 4 week olds they were dropper feeding etc etc. i was so furious. they also have a lame horse with overgrown hooves. when they came back a few weeks later, they had like 5 animals in the car to give away in the car, they were on their way to walmart, and they brought abbey in because she was so small and told me the other had died. i picked her up to cuddle her and she started sucking my bottom lip and she was sooo tiny. when they were leaving, i blankly, coldly told them not to f*** touch her and they left. i nursed her for weeks. she is lucky to be alive. she is a miracle. as for the people, i ahve tried to get something done...where i am, no one seems to care. her children are like 13 and 14 and they do not go to school or anything and they don't care about that either among other things.i rarely see them, but if i do, it is with a sob story and a sick animal.

all of my cats are rescues except my three shelter babies cy, pheonix, and trey-and pheonix was on the chopping block literally.

i think something happened to my webcam, it used to be so clear now it is so messed up. i will check into a new cam, promise. lol
