Do you feed hay cubes, loose hay, or both?

Question:
Just wondering what everyone feeds and what they think are the pros and cons of each.

I feed both. The hay cubes are 70% timothy and 30% alfalfa. I feed a mixture of loose grass hay and timothy hay.

Both the boys and girls love the cubes and they also love their loose hay. However, both Jason and I have reactions (him more than me) to the loose hay and it is SUCH a mess. So I am thinking of just feeding the cubes.

Answer:
I feed mostly Timothy hay on the recommendation of my vet, but I have some timothy/alfalfa cubes on occasion as well. I use them more as a treat though.

Answer:
I feed both. I have the 70/30 Tim/Alfalfa cubes that I give a 2-3 times a week and the Timothy hay at all times. My vet said the loose hay is the best for their teeth and for fiber. It is messy though and I have allergy issues myself but put up with it for their sake.

Answer:
I feed both.....my vet said that chins use different teeth for each and its good to have both of them so all the teeth are worn down at the same rate And the kids love both.

Answer:
I had also read about the teeth thing. But then it was dispelled somewhere...I'll have to look.

Answer:
I put both but I feed mostly loose hay. My chins would think they are going to die without their loose hay

Answer:
We use both, though they get loose more often.

Answer:
I feed strictly only hay cubes, loose hay really bothers my hubby. Im not sure what the percentage of my cubes are its been a while. I purchase them through Ryerson's and If they feel there good enough for there quality of chins I think there wonderful for mine. There is so much less mess with hay cubes as well.

Answer:
I feed both. Loose always, cubes occasionally. Not all of my chins are huge cube fans, but they all get excited at the site of the hay bag!

Answer:
I feed the 70/30 hay cubes as well. They each get one every day and loose hay every 3 days, as it can be so expensive to buy. We once got pure timothy from a farmer and half of our guinea pigs got sick, it cost us $500 on meds alone We had the hay tested and found out there was a small microscopic bit of mold, the vet told us we were lucky that we didn't lose any animals, and that we didn't get sick ourselves.
