What age can male babies impregnat mom's?
Question: One of the teachers at the girls school has a pair of chins. Her daughter owns the male her son owns the female. They decided to let them have ONE set of babies, (pet store chins), Anyway there ofspring are both males. This teacher knows I have chins and we were talking on the bus to the kids field trip when I informed her she would have to seperate the boys from there mom or they'd impregnant her, she didnt think they would being her sons, Once I convinced her that YES they will she needs to know what age they need to go before mom becomes able to get pregant again? The dad's seperated and wont be put back with the girl. The babies are possibly off to a pet store but the mom really dosent want to send them there so we maybe working on something either them comming here part time, me taking them permantly or me helping to find them a home without going through petstore hands, up here I would HATE to find any of them in any of hte local petstores. Any info on the seperation age would be greatly appreciated. Answer: Most people I know seperate the male kits from mom anywhere form 8 weeks to 10 weeks after birth. Some of the breeders on here can most likely tell you what they prefer doing though Answer: correct, 8 to 10 weeks is pretty much the MAX that you want to keep them with their mother.. i have a few males who have gotten my adult females prego a lot faster than i thought they could.. the one has his first set coming this month.. hes only 9 months.. they sexually mature around the age of 6 months or so.. dont confuse them jumping on one anothers back with domination other than them actually breeding. doing that is how they show who is boss. but i would remove the kits as soon as they are eating & drinking on their own. (so about 8 to 9 weeks depending..) some people wean a lot earlier, but i normally go with 8 to 9 weeks. make sure to tell her not to give the mother a dust bath for at least 10 to 12 days after giving birth, although it sounds like they are older.. so i guess that wont help.. just goes to show ya some people dont do the reaserch before doing.. & thats crutial when breeding ANY animal.. hopefully you encourage your friend to do her studies before breeding chinchillas or any other animal.. it will pay off in the long run!! Answer: Thanks for the info, THis isnt a friend though its a teacher at my kids school. When she first told me that she was going to do this I encouraged her as much as I could to NOT do this and to do LOTS of research first, Of course being a teacher where all of your children go I couldnt really push the issue to much you know. Ill pass on the info and this is suppose to be the only time there breed. I do know she cares about her animals I think it was just a poor choice she made, they are 6 weeks old tomorrow and I did inform her of no dusth bath and to remove the father close to due date (told her this way back when she was just talking about it) I handt heard anything so I had hoped she had not done it then I heard about the boys today. She does care though as one of the boys was bite by the mom a few weeks ago and she took him straight to the ER vet for care. Answer: I had a male once impregnate a female when he was 12 weeks old, and I know of someone who had it happen at 11 weeks old. I seperate no later than 9 weeks because of this. The breedings mentioned above were planned, as I find it easier to introduce young males to some females that I have. Answer: i totally agree firefox2 Answer: hmmm, well you could always tell her about all the wonderful sites, & forums that will help her do things the best way she can.. & im sure she will if she does love them like you say she does. its just sad how many people dont think about things before breeding, then dont have anywhere to take the poor little ones too....*sigh* but i hope for her sake & mostly the kits, she does somemore searching before doing another litter.. Answer: I gave her my email addy and have previously told her about several diffrent forums. I agree they shouldnt have been breed and In talking to her I dont think she will do it again. Now im just trying to figure out the best way to help her place the boys, I do NOT want her to send them to a petstore, but I also wont pay her alot for them either since I feel if you choose to do this you should at least have a way to sell them OTHER than a petstore and I wasnt planning on adding to my crew so maybe ill just post classifieds for her or something. She is a nice lady who cares so im sure we can figure something else out besides the petstore. Answer: yeah pet stores arent the best place although they arent the worst.. i dont think people keep in mind the one way chinchillas did become populare was because pet stores carried them.. but trust me i do agree, i would rather sell to an individual over a pet store anyday!!! then you get to see who is uying it, not the corp. that will be selling it.. i am hopig i dont have to sell any of mine to the pet store, but its so much harder to sell a standard rather than a color.. so if you know of anyone looking for a stanard female i have two looking for new homes.. but i would rather not ship... =] anywho good luck with the teacher!!!*be her teacher!* =]=]=]=] :P Answer: Yeah around here id just rather them NOT be in a petstore there pretty uneducated about chins there prices are CRAZY like 90 dollars for a standard. That and there housing just isnt right for chins. I sent her a short note today about the age (i gave 9 weeks just to be safe) and then told her she needs to weight the babies after being seperated to insure they are still gaining and eatting well. That gives 3 weeks for me to help her find another way to sell them instead of a petstore, The balls in her court now on how much help she really wants from me.
