Vacation - how long would you live your chins alone?
Question: Just curious, would any of you feel comfortable leaving your chins alone for a few days while you went on vacation? My friend and I were talking today and she asked if I would consider ever going away for a 3 day weekend. I told her not unless I had someone to watch the chins. Am I being too overprotective? Would you feel comfortable leaving your chins alone for that long? Answer: I wouldn't.. but I have more than just chins to think about... whenever I go anywhere unless its just overnight, I get a petsitter. If its just for one night, I'd leave my dogs with a friend and have my neighbor check in on the cats & others... Answer: That would depend on who is taking care of them and how much experience they have. If it's Tim or Lisa, sure. I'd even leave the chins in their care for a week or two. (that's if they let me!) I'd still check in once in a while but I wouldn't be insanely worried about it. Now if it was someone else who was slightly clueless, then I would not leave the chins for more than a day or so. Answer: Sophie, I mean having nobody watch them. Answer: oops Sorry about that. I'd leave them overnight at the most I think. I have to confess I did end up in a bind once and left the girls at home alone for 2 days. I filled their food bowl to the top, gave them TONS of hay and provided 3 full water bottles for them and I was worried sick the whole time I was away. I promised myself I would never do that again even though the girls were fine when I got back. Answer: i could see myself leaving the chins alone for a night but lucy i wouldn't...part of her care is not merely a full bowl of food and water but also several hours a day of time out of her cage....besides her cage needs daily cleaning.... Answer: I would only leave them for one night without someone checking on them. Answer: Interesting. My friend left hers alone for 3 days without having anyone check up on them. I told her I could never feel comfortable doing that. Answer: I don't think I could leave mine more than overnight. The most we've gone is 2 nights. But it was we left late afternoon the one day stayed that night, all the next day/night and were back home early the following day. I stockpiled Hay and Food in their cage, and everyone had at least 2 waterbottles. I feel bad going to the MCBA Meeting this weekend cause we're leaving early friday and won't be back till late Saturday. Heck I was worried leaving them with Tim while I went to nationals... I worry waaaay to much about anything. Answer: More than one day alone worries me. I know logically that nothing would probably happen if I left them longer, but I always consider the "what ifs" and have someone check in at least once a day. Maybe we should start a local chinsitting service for each other! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
