Poor Freddy again...:(

Question:
Well we have been having quite a time of it with Freddy again. His foot seems to be quite a bit better but he wasn't taking his meds so the vet asked if I wanted to inject the baytril. I didn't have a problem with doing it since I have sub-q injected plenty of animals over the years and do it daily with my diabetic dog.
After about 3 of the daily injections into the scruff of his neck I noticed one morning that he had chewed the injection site....Yikes....! Off to the vet we went! She said it would heal well if we could just get him to leave it alone! For the past 3 days I have been using a bitter spray to keep him from chewing and all has gone well until late this morning. In a couple of seconds flat he chewed a chunk out of the scab...grrrr. Nice mess he made. He is now firmly in an e-collar and looking pretty sad....Poor Freddy!
Hopefully he keeps his collar on and is a good boy!

Answer:
Poor Freddy! Hope he's better soon... how in the heck can he chew his scruff?

Answer:
how in the heck can he chew his scruff?
Well..I probably didn't inject it quite far back enough... It's kind of hard to inject too close to the head of a wiggley chin...lol. I couldn't believe how easy it is for them to turn their head around and chew right close to the back of their neck. I had no idea he would even try to chew it or I would have tried even harder to get him to take it by mouth.
I've learned my lesson now

Answer:

Answer:
Poor Freddy!!! He better not mess with that collar if he knows whats good for him!

Answer:
Well...so far so good. It is staying in place and he is not fussing with it any more. He can eat his hay no problem and can reach his pellets as long as I keep his bowl right full. He just looks so sad. I am hoping the wound heals real quick and he doesn't have to have it one for too long.

Answer:
Poor Freddy, he certainly is keeping you busy. After all this, you will both need a vacation!

Answer:
Oh man, my little Freddy !!! You heal quickly now! I don't want to go visit you in a sad state
Poor boy!! How are you doing with all of this, Pam ?

Answer:
Well Freddy didn't manage to wiggle out of his cone in the night so I must have put in on tight enough. His wound is looking better so I think we're on our way to wellness
He looks so sad though !
The cone is big enough so he can't reach his wound but small enough so he can eat his hay and pellets. I'n giving him loads of extra cuddles and play time.
Wish him a speedy recovery!
