Poor Pocky
Question: My not so brainy little companion here keeps falling off of his highest shelf. He likes to sleep up there, on the very edge, and every so often I hear the telltale "clunk-rattle-scramble-papercrumbling" sound of him falling off of it. Does anyone know how I can urge him to sleep INSIDE his hidey hut? He's persistant, but I think he's going to end up with brian damage if he keeps this up Answer: Is he falling a good distance? If so, I would put a ledge just a little bit below the one that he sleeps on so that if he does fall, he will not be falling very far. Falling half-asleep can be dangerous because it takes good reaction time for a chin to right itself and land in a "safe" manner. Answer: Your post cracked me up! I've never heard of a chin that falls in his sleep, but I agree with Candice, try a ledge for him to land on. And I know of nothing that will make him sleep in the hidey hut-they don't do anything unless they want to do it Answer: Maybe try installing a wider shelf? Silly Pocky I guess he's just so comfy he doesn't notice he is falling off. Answer: haha, who knows. The shelf really isn't high up, but the poor thing really is embarassing himself :P Maybe i'll just give away this little hut, he never uses it for anything at all! I think he's almost got the picture, he's snuggling up closer to the wall of the cage now. It took him a while to get it ;P that's not the first time i've seen him being a nerd and falling asleep on the edge of the shelf! Answer: maybe pocky needs a little hammock? Answer: He used to have one, but I removed it because he was chewing on the fabric, and i've heard that ingesting fabric isn't very good for little critters (or anyone for that matter I would guess ) and the problem with pocky is that he swallows most of what he chews. So we have been especially careful about some of the chew toys we give him. Speaking of which, is that normal? This is the first rodent i've ever had that didn't just chew things up and scatter the mess all over the place Answer: maybe you could put a piece of board on the shelf that would make a ledge for him to bump into when he rolls..
