Poor Cub
Question: She still loves her rubs, food, treats & playtime, but she's a mess. Skinny, sticky from drool, w/ crap in her eyes & she now smells terrible (I think it's the Nutrical or maybe her bad teeth?). She went for a checkup 2 weeks ago & the vet said she had no infections or complications except her ingrown teeth & severe weight loss despite eating. I wish I could get her in better condition again. She's lost 100 g in 1 year & the smell is terrible. I know she hates it. She also always paws @ her mouth. Answer: Neuro, can you start feeding her Critical Care? I'm sorry that she's not doing well...it must be quite hard on you both. Answer: Poor baby sounds like it's starting to make her really uncomfortable. Neuro, I hope I don't sound insensitive but it sounds like the time may be getting close where you will have to decide about her quality of life. I really hope it does not come to that though Answer: Neuro, I am sorry to hear this. Cub is obviously not getting the nutrients she needs despite eating. Did the vet say it is okay for her to live like this? I always worry when I hear about an animal eating and losing weight. I will Cub in my thoughts. Answer: The vet did not suggest euthanasia this time & she still gets joy out of life & eats a lot, so Dr Benoit (I think) thinks it's ok for her to live like this. But it's really pathetic to see her. She looks/smells like she came out of a sewer. Answer: could the smell be coming from her gums or teeth rotting? I've heard of that happening once the teeth are ingrown. Usually a strong smell signigifies something is wrong. Answer: I agree with Sophie and was going to say the same thing. Chinchillas never have an offensive odor so the fact that she smells so bad is a signal something is definitely wrong. Answer: Neuro I hope that she gets better soon.. Im sorry that she is not doing so well.. Answer: I rescued a male chin a long time ago, that had malaclussion. He also had an odor to him, it was caused by the teeth, and there were actually pockets if puss that developed over time. Although he too seemed to enjoy certain aspects of life, I eventually had to have him euthanized, he was in horrible pain. Neuro, I am so sorry that cub isn't doing well. I know how hard it must be to see her like this Answer: I am so sorry to hear she still isn;t doing well. I really hope you find the cause of the problem and are able to improve her health Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
