Interesting facts
Question: I recently saw on here, a few questions re: brevi chins, and people wanting to know the differences, so thought I would post some information that I found on a web site that is rather interesting. http://www.babinszki.ca/chins/factoids/nobackground.htm Stuff About Chins For those of you who are not familiar with chins, here are some chins facts: Chins are nocturnal; There are two major varieties: Chinchilla Brevicaudata a broad head; small blue ears; short tails; 128 day gestation period; and, larger than the lanigera. This is the variety primarily found in South America today. Chinchilla Langiera narrow head and shoulders; long ears; long tail; and, 111 day gestation period. This is the variety primarily found in North America today. in the wild, they eat grasses and herbs; they are also reported to eat insects and bird eggs in the wild; curiosity is a well known trait in chins; females are generally larger than the males; females are usually dominant; in captivity, they eat their food a little at a time, not all at one go. Consequently you will see them come out periodically through the day to feed. Answer: the eating insects and bird eggs kinda makes me wonder though Answer: Maybe if NOTHING else is available? I;ve seen this debated many a time, and I am sure this is not a "regular" diet by any means. Answer: I think my chins would look at me like I was a total idiot if I fed them insects and eggs Answer: I can tell you I definitely have one of each breed of chins. You described both girls to a T to insects and eggs although I've heard of chins going crazy for mealworm and flies before. Answer: That was an interesting article.. especially about Mathius F. Chapman... must name a future chinchilla after that man! (Mathius that is.. not Chapman) Answer: What happened to the Costina chinchilla type? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
