Question - Is it ever too late to cage chins together?
Question: Currently our chins are housed in separate cages. Gizmo and Jack's cages are next to each other and from time to time they play together and try to give each other kisses (at least that what I hope their doing) they get nose to nose. Nipper's cage is next to our love seat so she gets to spend time w/me a lot. But my fiance and I were wondering, is it ever to late to introduce chins to each other. Or would it be better if we left them in their own cages b/c they've been caged by themselves for soo long? It is more out of curiosity that I ask this. I don't know if I'd be comfortable caging them together. Poor little Nipper has notches in her ears (hence the name) b/c she used to be caged w/a mate who took a liking to chewing on her ears (at least that's what we were told), so I don't know how she would feel about the matter. Also, we aren't ready to start breeding b/c we only live in an apt. I don't think I'd have the room for babies...perhaps when we get a house one day, it could be in our future. They are so cute as babies (as many of your pictures show). Thanks everyone! Answer: You can try to put them together at any age. It usually depends on the chins and their temperaments whether they will make suitable cage mates. Just like people, some can live together well and some just can't. As to the notches in the ear, that is more than likely the result of fighting.. Answer: How old are your chins ? Answer: It is never too late to introduce chinchillas to each other, although some will just never get along. Patience is usually key. However, I'd avoid breeding pet store chinchillas. If you really want to start breeding chinchillas, I'd advise planning out what it is you are breeding for (size, colour, temperament, etc.) and then picking up chinchillas to work towards that goal. Again, patience is key. Answer: Are Gizmo and Jack both males? It may be difficult to introduce them (if they are males) in the presence of a female. You might have to move their cages into a different room/part of the house if they are in close proximity. There are some great threads on introductions...just type introduce into the search. Answer: Jack is our only male. Gizmo and Nipper are both female. As far as their ages they are each about a year apart. Gizmo is 3, Jack 2 and Nipper is about 7 mos Answer: Okay, next question. Are Jack and Gizmo breeding-quality chinchillas? I thought that you mentioned a sales person somewhere. If these chins are of unknown background, I would strongly advise against breeding. What about pairing Gizmo with Nipper? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
