Update on Noel
Question: Noel appears to be doing well. She sometimes takes her meds with no problem and other times she fights it. I think it may be too sweet for her to take all at once. I may break up the dosage into two parts during the day or put the dosage in a treat. Sophie, did you ever give Tinsel her meds in a treat? Answer: I didn't have to. Tinsel was a bit of a piggy when it came to her meds and would gobble it up in about 2 seconds not to mention her doses became too big to fit in anything. how much is the vet asking you to feed Noel? You might want to check withyour vets before breaking up the dosage. I remember something about keeping the electrolytes in the brain stable. Answer: Sophie, I am giving her 0.4 ml a day. It really isn't that much. How much did you give Tinsel? Thanks for letting me know about breaking up the dosage. Answer: She started off on 2 ml and went all the way up to 15ml (split in 5ml doses three times per day) I'm wondering if you'd be able to have her meds diluted where you would feed her 0.8 ml but it would be less sweet? Or maybe try injecting in a raisin? Do you think a piece of shredded wheat could absorb the whole dose? Answer: Sophie, I didn't realize Tinsel was taking that big of an amount of Pheno! Poor girl. I am thinking I could put the meds in a piece of dried apple and roll it up like a tortilla. Hopefully she won't notice it. Answer: That might work too. Tinsel's seizures were quite severe. The shortest ones lasted almost an hour and she could have several per week. The vet said this was most likely all the result of poor breeding practices. I thought the doses were pretty big but every time we did bloodwork her pheno levels were really low. They had to be up in the 70 something range and until we upped to 5 ml three times daily they were only around 10 or 20. Answer: Sophie, an hour? Even though I am upset Noel has epilepsy, I am grateful they last from 10 to at the most 50 seconds. I think I will try the tortilla trick tomorrow. I will let you know what happens. Answer: yeah...I would sit with her through it all. It was quite the nightmare. Then when she lost her leg I was pretty much a mess. I could not fathom having her live with epilepsy AND three legs. She was quite the trooper and remained a sweetie through it all. I miss her every day Please let me know how the tortilla idea works. Might be an idea to change the flavour of the meds if you can next timeyou get a refill. Answer: Im glad that Noel is doing good... good luck being creative with the meds.. wow Sophie... an hour... that is great that you would sit with her while she went thru that... Answer: Glad to hear it is going well! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
