our kitty is loosing her teeth!
Question: honestly, we do not know how old she is, but my girlfriend has had sammie for about three and a half years and she was told that sammy was prolly about two when she adopted her. however, she has now lost several teeth. sammie's behavior is no more odd than usual....meaning to say-she is always a grump! lol. she always wants her neck and her jaws rubbed. i thought about a tooth or jaw infection, but wouldn't she show other signs of illness and wouldn't it be too sore for us to rub her neck and jaws? she has always wanted this, it is not new. and the tooth loss, that we know of, started about 6 weeks ago. we only found one, but she has a few more gone now. any ideas? thanks -angela Answer: It just fell out? Did it look rotten? Have you had her teeth checked recently? Did she take a hard fall knock one loose??? Answer: Cats will lose their teeth when they are older but if Sammie is supposedly only 5, I would be concerned. Have you asked you vet about it? Do her teeth seem to have a lot of plaque on them? Are there any teeth with black on them? Answer: well, the tooth that we found looks perfectly fine. and there seems to be no yucky teeth in there...adn we do brush her teeth. well, that is to say, i am a nag and I bursh her teeth.....i told mel tonight that sammie is going to the vet no matter what. before now, i have always kind of stayed out of her pet business...but she is on disability and has a car payment etc and so she tends to put off vet stuff. when i would offer, she would get upset. well, now, if she doesn't do it when i say it has to be done, then i do it. period. so if sammie does not go tomorrow with princess (who was supposed to go today, but we had an emergency hospital visit for contractions), then i will take her myself. sammie does not wrestle or any of that...occasioanlly she will fall off the windowsill (i swear, i do NOT laugh), but i do not think she has ever gotten a good knock. and she is of good weight and good health, although, i did have to make mellie switch to better food. i just don't know. seems weird, huh? Answer: which teeth are the ones that were missing or falling out?? if it was only the little tiny teeth at the front then i wouldn't worry too much... i have a 14 month old birman and i was worried because i noticed that she has about 6 teeth missing (her little ones at the front, not the fangs though)... i got replies back saying that cats tend to lose these teeth through fighting, trying to catch birds etc and that these teeth don't do much anyway (i was concerned cos they won't grow back... she already lost her baby teeth). if the cats teeth look healthy i wouldn't be overly concerned... does the cat chew on things alot?? i have noticed that my cat loves chewing on things which is weird and might be why she lost some of her teeth. but a vet check prob wouldn't hurt anyway... just for peace of mind Answer: Any updates? Is she still losing teeth? What does your vet say? Answer: my girlfriend is having horrible times with the pregnancy, she has been in labor for all this time and is dialating slowly. because the baby is premature, they are just letting her progress at such a slow pace as long as he is not in stress. she can barely get around from the pain of the contractions, not to mention exhaustion. therefor, i have yet to take sammerjam to the vet. she is acting totally healthy etc and eating well and all. as soon as baby dylan is here, she will be the next priority. if i felt she was ill etc, i would go anyway. but i think she may be older than we were told, or possibly be chewing or soemthign that we do not know of. she sure acts like the same ol' sams....i don't know. thanks for the concern. i will post as soon as their is an update.
