Scab in ear

Question:
Today I noticed a biggish scab in one of Snurrs ears . It isn't bloody so I don't think Felix has bitten him... could it be fungus?

Answer:
Maybe he just scratched it on something in the cage, or his ear could have been itchy so he did it himself? I have 25 guinea pigs and they get stuff like that all the time.

Answer:
I am not sure what that is, but keep an eye on it. If it gets bigger then take him to a vet, as it is probably fungus (or something that is not healing properly). It is strange that it just appeared scabbed over, unless it's a bite that happened when you weren't there, and scabbed over quickly

Answer:
Thanks for the replies. I have some stuff I used when I treated Felix for fungus a while ago, I'll probably trow some of that in their dust bath, just in case. The scab is hard though and I don't remember any hard scabs on Felix when he had fungus.

Answer:
I doesn't look like fungus at this point from the picture. I would put a bit of neosporin on it and watch it like has been suggested.

Answer:
It looks like a scab. Fungus usually starts in other areas - although anything is possible with chins, lol.

Answer:
I was told not to use neosporin on chins, and only to use polysporin. Is there any truth to this?

Answer:
The only thing I can think of is that neosporin may come in 2 varieties. The first one is just plain and second one is with a pain reducer added. The pain reducer is not good for chins.

Answer:
Ok, that makes sense.Thanks!

Answer:
What is neosporin and polysporin, and why would I put it on an already formed scab? I thought they were for open cuts and wounds.
When Felix had fungus it started on his ears, but it looked a lot different.
