Links for making scratching posts/cat trees
Question: http://cats.about.com/od/diycattrees/ I found this while I was in search of some ways to keep my pussies occupied and ran across this list. Any more out there I might have missed? Answer: I'd love to build a cat tree... someday I will.. I don't have the tools needed so I'd need help... They are SO expensive in the stores! Almost $300 for a nice one... Answer: I have the tools and the knowhow, it's just a matter of getting the materials. I'm sure my brother (electrician) can get some scrap wood from one of the job sites he's on. It wouldn't really take much and the only thing I'd have to buy would be the sisal rope or a carpet remnant. Of course mine would be extremely elaborate lol. They are expensive, but cheaper than buying new furniture for sure. Answer: They are expensive, but cheaper than buying new furniture for sure. That's an excellent point! Answer: I would check with carpet stores, Jennifer. Tim and I made a cat scratch post for a 4-H demonstration (basically, you have to demonstrate how to make a project in front of a bunch of people), and we got a TON of used carpet for free. Answer: Our Humane Society makes them and sells them for $25 each. We bought one when we got BB. Ours looks like this: http://www.topcatproducts.com/ except the sisal is sisal rope wound around it. She took to it right away and it has held up over 4 years already. I don't think these are difficult to make at all. One tall round post nailed to a base and sisal rope wound around held in by large headed nails. Answer: cool... I have been wanting to make one of those.. but just never got to it.. and didnt know how to go about doing it.. thanks for the links.. Im sure that some day when I get materials for it I can make one... Answer: I started one today. WHEW! I am using concrete forming tube, 2x4's, carpet, sisal rope and plywood. So far it looks pretty good, aside from the fact that I almost covered the hidey hole on the tube. Oh well, it still works and will keep the cats from scratching my furniture! Answer: I finished it! The baby cats jumped on before I even got done attaching the perch on top. I'm pretty proud of it, and the materials only cost about $40. Answer: That's awesome Jennifer!! Great job!! I've been meaning to make one for quite some time. I'm sure the cats would love it. It's just a matter of getting the materials together. Maybe this weekend I'll start one!
