Shipping

Question:
I was wondering what is the cheapest airline to go with for shipping a chinchilla from somewhere in canada to another place in canada. Any suggestions from canadian breeders or buyers?

Answer:
I have heard that WestJet may be the cheapest. I personally use Air Canada because they have been very good to my animals. Get your exact carrier dimensions, weight, destination and get a quote IN WRITING.

Answer:
thanks for the advice, that is a great idea to get the quote in writing, that would be all I need is to get to the aiport and find out I need to pay more then I was expecting.

Answer:
If you decide to ship with AC, alkso make sure you get the carrier requirements from them. Jiggy's breeder had a few surprises when she got to the airport and I know Lisa did as well. Luckily, Jiggy wasshipped anyway but I've heard of people being turned away.

Answer:
I also had a few "surprises" with AC, nothing but problems. There rates are quite high as well.
Westjet uses a standard small pet carrier, which can be bought at Walmart, and they are fine with that. There rate is $66.34 for anywhere up to 25 kg. I believe. Not sure what the cut off is for measurements, but basically, you can ship more than one carrier, and it will still only cost $66.34. Awesome deal, and the one I deal with here in Victoria truly cares about the animals
I have also heard good things about Westjet in Calgary and Edmonton as well

Answer:
I'm shipping some chins throughout Canada and one person suggested calling JetsGo. JetsGo states on their website that shipping live only costs $40. However, I haven't been able to get through to them to verify if this is true.

Answer:
I've heard of them, but haven't looked into it either. I would think there locations would be limited quite a bit though. It would be interesting to see what their standards are, etc.
