Cage Wire questions??

Question:
I went to two hardware stores to look at wire for my cages and was wondering if chinnies can fit through this spacing:
It's 2 X 2, 16gage galvanized steel and 2 X 3 1/2 galvanized steel. I hope it's safe because it's all I can find.

Answer:
Oh ya, it's not for the floor, the floor will be solid -- this is for the sides of the cage.

Answer:
I think a chin could be able to fit through there, it seems like pretty large spacing. Where did you go to look for this wire?

Answer:
I looked at Home Depot and Rona. Hmm I know they had smaller wire too so I think I might go with that just to be on the safe side if you think they can fit through. What about 1/2 " by 1/2" -- Im almost positive that was the other option. Would that be better?

Answer:
1/2 x 1/2 is what they recommend for maternity cages. The other options you mentioned seem a bit big. Not big enough for a chin to get through but possibly big enough for legs to get caught and broken. I'd be really uneasy with that size.
Are you looking for a cage you can stick your fingers in to give scritches? Are the first sizes you mentioned comparable to the bar spacing in the super pet or Hagen rabbit cage I know you have for your chins now?

Answer:
How would they get there legs caught? It's for the sides of the cage not the bottom. The cage I have now, the superpet is 1 x 5. Yes, it would be nice to get my fingers in there for treats, scritches and some lovin' and to be able to put things one them, like ledges, water bottles, ect but my #1 concern is safety. We found another place that has wire so we are going there tomorow so what do you recommend as the:
-- largest spacing?
-- the perfect spacing?

Answer:
If your chins are anything like mine, they use the sides of the cage to rebound and jump higher If the spacing it to big, the back foot could go through then twist and the chinie is stuck hanging upside down and by one paw. If they try to pull any then that's where the leg can break.
Petart Pam used a wire that's 1x2 I think. It's the perfect size for your fingers but still a bit small for big chinnie skies to fit through it. She's be able to tell you how the chins do with it too.

Answer:
1/2 by 1/2 or 1 by 1/2 is recommended for babies up to adults...anything bigger than 1 by 2 they can and will get out of...If they can squeeze under doors, they can get out of that...I would recommend the 1/2 by 1/2 if it's easy to find. Home Depot, Lowes, and most hardware stores all carry it

Answer:
Aww I've seen silly rebound like that. I will look today and if they don't have it I'll go with the 1/2 by 1/2. These little buggers sure make it hard for them to stay safe.

Answer:
Courtney... ask them for hardware cloth... that is what I used on Livvies & Charlies.. and also for Will and Graces too... they too like to run around.. it is 1/2 X 1/2
for Wooki and Mimis cage.. they have 1 X 1/2 and they like to run around and do rebounds too... they can still get treats thru them and get a small pet on the head..
Livvie and Charlies cage you can only get a treat in.. no scratching..
