Im in SHOCK
Question: I'm truly in shock. I was just talking to Jason telling him how hard its been trying to find a home willing to take in Preciouse, about all the cats in our state alone listed on petfinder, on how the shelters around here are very full and cant gurantee that shes not going to be put to sleep. He looks at me and goes, "well I dont care how long she stays as long as I dont have to mess with her or stop and buy her food" I looked at him and went "well what about her staying permantly" (all the while figuring he'd actually give me a time limit on when he wanted her gone) . Then he looks at me and says " as long as shes not upstairs when im home she can stay ", I looked at him and said "permantly" he says "yeah just make sure you dont ask me to stop on my way home and pick ANYTHING up for her" Im still in shock. OF course the girls heard this and are bouncing around the house now, so does this mean I now have a cat???????? Answer: Yup!!! Way to go girl!!!!!!! You got a kitty!!! Answer: Wahoo Christy,,,Congrats Answer: Im still in disabelife, I keep looking over going "who is that man" ! For a while I was wanting her to stay then I was thinking I was in over my head and now that shes using the litter box im going HMMM she wouldnt be so bad to have around. How long till I can let her out of quarantene? I know vet visit first would be best but I wont be able to swing that till end of Sept with the kids getting ready for school. Shes been away from other animals for two weeks now, inside for a week. Answer: To be totally honest, I'd still keep looking for a home for her. I think it's fabulous Jason is open to you keeping her, but he sounds less than enthusiastic and I'd be worried about him changing his mind down the road, especially if she takes to crying at the door of the room she's locked in while he's home. It's not promising when someone says 'you can keep the animal as long as I don't have to do anything, see it or hear it', and I've seen it way too many times - people forcing their spouses to get rid of their pets for whatever reason. Also, I'm not sure if it's wise to banish a cat to one area of the house when he's home. The cat isn't going to understand why she's allowed to roam the house during the day and then is locked in a room during the nights and weekends. That cold lead to behavioural problems and I'm wondering how Jason will react if she begins to cry and paw at the door to be let out, especially at night when he's trying to sleep? As much as I know you want the kitty and have alot of love to offer, I think it might be in the best interests of the cat to keep looking for a permanent home. Sorry... Answer: Bridget trust me im not fully given up on finding her a perfect home but EVERYONE ive talked to has told me what a basically helpless cause this is. ANd to be honest Jason knows that once an animals here and its agreed there permant he can go out the door before they will, he dosent give me ultimatims about my animals just that HE dosent have to do anything with them, and he's that way with ALL my animals but Grizzly. Yes best case snerio will be a home where she can roam the full house all the time but given the alternatives ill keep her free roaming for 10 hours a day and in the room shes use to now for the rest of the time. She has YET to cry bearly meows is very very quite and sweet, and if he can sleep with Grizzly whinningin his ear, he can handle a cat away from the bedroom meowing lol. Answer: and animals pick up on it when there are folks around who just don't like them...and it can stress the poor things.. but, you never know, she may grow on him...like with lucy, when we first started fostering her all i heard was "when are you getting rid of that dog", now, since she's quit messing in the floor, doesn't get into things any more and has become more or less part of the family (a year will do that) i have actually caught greg petting her and lightly wrestling with her the true test will come when we get transferred and i have to make the choice to try to move her with us or see if her foster agency remembers us (they have been suspiciously quiet since the end of her heartworm treatment) Answer: OH and JUST to show the alternatives, I have spent hours every day for the last three days on the phone calling all the local rescues/ shelters the one that WILL take her in says they cant garuantee she gets a home and not put down, as shes full grown and there all ready over run with cats, The only other one that WOULD take her in wanted me to give them 100 dollars to take her in (Not going to happen). Petfinder alone in the last TWO DAYS has 13 diffrent adds for cats/kittens (many more than one per add) not to mention our local papers list after list of cats/kittens free to anyone that will take them. Personally if I was a cat id rather be in a home where 4 out of 5 people will love me and care for me,and the other one will just ignore me, will feed me good food, get me vet care, will let me roam around the house most of the day and then have to stay in a certain area for part of the time than in a cage on death row. But the adds will stay up for a while and if the perfect (or better than ours) home comes along she will go to it. Answer: Christy, I think you misunderstood my post. I'm not suggesting you should take her to a shelter because your husband is less than enthusiastic about keeping her. I was suggesting that while it's great she can stay with you, it might be a good idea to consider her a foster and keep looking for a home where she'll have more freedom to move about and where everyone is enthusiastic about her being part of their lives. Having said that, if Jason warms to her and she doesn't mind being kept in a room at certain times, it would be a moot point. Making her home with you now is definitely better than living on death row in a shelter; all I meant was that there may be a more suitable home for her. Answer: Gotta agree with Banshee on this one. By the way, why is Mr. Christy a catist? (I just made that up, but it sounds okay.) Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
