Welcome to www.tendlife.com !!!

hi! im new :)

Question:
hey everyone, im new. this is a really awesome forum, so much good info! I was wondering if yall might could advise me. i just posted about my litter of himilayan mix kittens for sale in the animals for sale section, and im not a cat breeder, so i have no CLUE what to charge for my kitties. My main issue is their treatment. i want them to go to the best homes possible. They are high quality cats (himi mix, 3 of them look 100% himi) so i dont want to give them away for free, yet i dont want to charge so much that someone who could offer a good home couldnt afford one. thanks so much for any advice! c. elizabeth

Answer:

Glad you stopped by. What you charge for the cats may also depend on where abouts you live (canada, US, UK, etc). I've since Himilayan kittens (purebreds) go for as much as $350 in the classifieds here. I've seen mixes go for as much or much less.
Hopefully someone else here will be able to give you a better idea
Enjoy your stay, and in the unlikely case that you didn't figure it out already, we love pet pictures

Hello and welcome! You say you're not a breeder, so was this an accidental litter? This is just my opinion, but I'm thinking that you should never offer kittens "free to good homes". A certain amount of money should be charged to ensure that the potential adoptor does have money and isn't afraid to spend it on a pet. And giving animals away free to people you don't know...you don't know what sickos are out there, so it's never a good idea.
In terms of the pricing, I think it fair that you ask to be reimbursed for the vet check and other expenditures in their care. Or ask them to make a donation to an animal shelter and give you the receipt as proof. If you're not a breeder, this wasn't a planned litter, and they're not purebred cats, then it's unethical in my opinion to ask for alot of money for people to take them off your hands.
They sound lovely - do you have photos to show us?

Answer:
thanks for the replies!! thats great advice. im in the USA (north carolina) I'm not a breeder, and yes this was an accident. But i call it the 'adorable' accident. The mom is scheduled to get spayed in about 7 weeks (after weaning). But i must admit ive enjoyed these babies soooooooo much! All of our animals are spayed/neutered, so having this litter has been so rewarding. Banshee, i completely agree with the free to good home deal. There is such a fine line i think, between charging too much or too little. I am going to take some photos this week, ill be sure to post them, and maybe that will give everyone a better idea on how i should price them. they are growing up so fast, the arent going to be babies for much longer :-(

Welcome! POTN is awesome. How bad was the hurricane damage where you are?

Answer:
Welcome!!! Around here, kittens that are vet checked, de-wormed and have 1st shots go for $50-60. If they are fixed, $100-125.

Welcome to the Forum! I can't wait for kitty pics.
I'd say $100 sounds good. When we adopted Annie it was $100 and that included a spay. Good luck to the baby kitties.

Answer:
I posted in your classified threads about this...and I mostly agree with Bridget. However, although I wouldn't ADVERTISE free kittens, I would probably give them away to someone that is/was willing to pay.
