cages

Question:
i did a cage search in the chin section but some of the pics of everyone's cages were not able to be found, i kept getting an error message

if anyone feels up to showing off the wonderful cages i would appreciate it as i am really not finding any i like ( already made or plans for a homemade one) on the internet at this time
thanks for helping a chin addict in the making

Answer:
I posted this awhile back. It might help. I prefer melamine cages to wire cages. The are a lot cleaner, and the chins get more privacy. The only downfall is that they are heavy! I used 1/2" melamine on my second one and it's not too heavy.

Answer:
I really liked your cages Candycane and Richard said as soon as we get our own place he's going to build me some.

Answer:
i dont mind heavy as i probably wont be moving them around much once i get the "chin room" set up, he he, how weird to be typing that
i like the idea of the melamine as it looks easier to clean
is the bottom wire mesh or solid ?? and how do you clean up the shavings ?? i was thinking about using my 2 gallon shop vac to clean it out if needed??

Answer:
The bottom is solid. I don't like wire bottoms. You could modify the cage slightly and make a pull out tray. I don't know anywhere around here to get cheap metal pans so I just went with the solid bottoms.

Your shopvac would clean up the shavings. I just sweep mine out, disinfect and then put the new ones in.

Answer:
also since i do use my room for scrapbooking and such i was thinking about putting the chin cage against one wall at the far end of the room and then maybe get a gate or something to block the room in half so the chins have half the room for playtime and plus it would make it safer incase pippin does get into the room or something, as i am still little worried about him he he

Answer:
yeah i like the idea of having a solid bottom

Answer:
You may want to try and find a separate room from the scrap booking room. The dust can get to be a bit messy and might just scratch the pics. Just a thought since my wife is into scrapping as well.

Answer:
that is a good thought, i never thought about the dust
thanks for the info

Answer:
