Grapefruit Seed Extract?

Question:
Has anyone heard (or do you currently use) GSE as a supplement. I have been told by several breeders and owners that it can do wonders for cats with ailments. We are probably going to put Syd on it to keep her from getting anymore UTIs.
Here's an article that I found.

Answer:
Never heard of it. But hey, whatever works!

Answer:
I have used it on myself for candida, gingivitis & UTIs. Remarkable stuff. It is essentially a broad spectrum antibiotic that bugs cannot develop resistance to. I am not sure of its impact on beneficial flora, but I can attest that it wipes out the bad stuff.
I was unaware it could be used on cats.

Answer:
Acutally, GSE is being used on many, many animals. I was also worried about the impact on intestinal flora, but I am currently supplementing with acidophilus and will continue to do so once I start the GSE.

Answer:
Interesting.. let us know if it helps Syd..

Answer:
hey i noticed today that my cats food, Natural Balance has grapeseed oil in it... wonder if thats the same thing ?

Answer:
It's similar. However, the extract is much stronger. The grapefruit seed oil in Natural Balance is used as a preservative I think.

Keep in mind that GSE does not produce the negative side-effects associated with antibiotic use. Intestinal flora remain intact with the use of GSE.

Answer:
Thanks Steph! Funny, that's the exact brand that I bought.

Answer:
I feed Nature's Variety Prairie cat food, and it also has GSE. Another bacteria that it is supposedly good for being rid of is giardia.
