baytril

Question:
I had a vet try to give me baytril in a pill form or by injection.I thought it came in a liquid. Has anyone else heard of the pill or injection form?

Answer:
yes. baytril comes in both those forms. giving baytril orally is quite the challenege. It tastes quite bitter and the chin I had on it did not appreciate at all. The injection form is a lot easier since it's all over ina few minutes but petart pam had a bit of a problem with the chin chewing the injection spot. I haven't had any experience with the pill form though.

Answer:
Thanks for the quick response about different forms of baytril.Because the vet didnt have the liquid, and I wasnt sure about the pill/injection form, we opted to use chlor-palm(liquid).She took the meds right from the syringe which is great. So at least she wont be stressed when i have to medicate her.Oh, I am treating her for a stubborn eye infection that has went into her sinuses.Thank goodness it hasnt went into her lungs.

Answer:
I'm glad the liquid is working for you guys. Hope she recovers quickly

Answer:
Thanks alot, i hope she recovers quick also! I feel so bad for her.

Answer:
Shan, I do hope you're using gloves when giving the Chloramphenicol to her. In people only, it has been shown to cause bone marrow problems in some people and has fallen out of common use in humans for this reason. Elvis was on this for a short time and we had to wear gloves for each dose.

Answer:
Hmmm.....that is interesting!!! Why the heck didnt the vet let me know this...sheesh.I will go buy some gloves.Thank-you very much for the info.

Answer:
It's been a couple years, but I believe my vet said 1 in 10,000 people have this reaction which isn't much but in the long run could save a life. She's very precautionary when it comes to things like this - some people just aren't.

Answer:
Just called my vet, they said that it is more dangerous in young people and people with compromised immune systems. Rather be safe than sorry...going to go buy gloves. Thanks for the info.

Answer:
Oh and just for future reference, Baytril is not manufactured in a liquid form, but can be compounded into one. My vet puts it in with a strawberry flavor suspension.
