Poor Freddy's foot is infected again!

Question:
Freddie has a sore foot again. He has quite a large callous on one of his back feet that cracks every once in a while. I have been putting bag balm on it and to keep it soft but he still got a little crack in it and because the callous is so large it gets infected quite easily. I have been using betidine to clean it and applying polysporin but now I can see puss forming just under the skin tonight so I guess we will be back at the vet tomorrow. Hopefully she can clean it up without too much stress to poor Freddy.

Answer:
Awww... poor guy! I hope he takes it well!
Sending Freddy's way!

Answer:
aww,,poor Freddy,,,,,does he have a wire bottom cage?
maybe a solid floor woudl help

Answer:
As long as I have had him he has always had a solid bottom cage. I don't used wire bottoms at all.
Heading out this morning to the vet. She mentiond last time this will probably be a long term problem with him. She may have to put him out and lance it to clean it up...I hope not

Answer:
Pam, I've been doing some research in Grapefruit extract as an antibiotic - you might look into using it topically instead of or in addition to the betadine.
Good luck with him!

Answer:
Thanks Jade! Now why didn't I think of that! I use loads of natural cures and such for my own use...why not on the chins? I wonder if tea tree oil might be another one to try. It has so many great properties such as an antibiotic and antifungal cure.

Answer:
Couldn't get an appointment at the vet till this afternoon so we will let you all know what the vet prescribes

Answer:
Poor Freddy, I'll be thinking healing thoughts for him.

Answer:
Back from the vet...thank goodness it was not infected...just very badly inflamed! The vet probed around with a needle and couldn't find any infection. I am to continue the betadine foot soaks and then apply antibiotic cream to his feet. She put a standing order in for baytril just incase it does get worst in the next few days.
Freddy was such a good boy and didn't even struggle.
Dr. Elizabeth is totally in love with Freddy! He just sat in her arms and she pet him for a good five minutes.
I don't think the vet visit stressed him out at all. He almost fell asleep in her arms.
I can't say enough about my vet...she is the greatest!

Answer:
That's good new's Pam. Just keep up the TLC and it should heal up.
