Need Cleaning tips!

Question:
o.k. everyone that has wire cages for their chins, tell me your cleaning tips! I'm hoping there is something that sticks out that will help make my cleaning job easier. We are having a dreadful winter and I miss being able to bring my cages outside for a good scrubbing. Bringing the cages into the shower makes such a mess. I'm especially having a hard time with the boys peeing from the top shelf running urine all the way down the cage..
Anyone use litterboxes successfully? Steam cleaners?

Answer:
Brenda,
Jade started using a steam cleaner not too long ago and had rave reviews. I have yet to bring any of my cages outside for a cleaning (they are too big to take down two flights of stairs). My chinnies don't pee on their shelves which makes my cleaning a lot easier.

Answer:
Denise, do you have wood or wire shelves? Do they just go down into the bedding to pee? I have a few cages with a wire bottom and this is where I'm having the most problems. I'm thinking about ripping the whole bottom out so that they sit right on their pull out tray.
Do you know if Jade steam cleans inside? I wonder if they are messy.

Answer:
Brenda, here is the link that Steph started: http://www.pets-on-the-net.com/forum...ighlight=steam I have solid stainless steel shelves and pull out trays in all of my cages.

Answer:
Thanks Denise! In her first post, she sound like me....frustrated LOL

Answer:
I just put a towel down under my wire cages to catch the drips.
It works great on the wood shelves too, makes me feel like I'm killing some microbes.

Answer:
"makes me feel like I'm killing some microbes" Yes, that's exactly what I want to do LOL I'm getting one of those steam cleaners!

Answer:
Brenda, I use litterboxes with great success and it sounds like your chins would be great "candidates". I buy 8" square baking pans and fill them with Cell-Sorb and pine.

Answer:
The steam cleaners are great. I have one and just put a towel under the cage like was suggested above. This is a joke ---- Just be sure to take the chins out first!!

Answer:
LOL I'll be sure to remove them Cathy.
Candice, do your chins try to move the pans around?
