handfeeding my kit
Question: Hi everyone, Well, the mother chin does not want to feed her kit.....and looks like she is not producing milk...so i'm handfeeding the little tike called Jasper the black velvet..... I don't know the sex yet....but all I know is I have to save this kit(2 days old). red P.S I have handfed hogglets so I think I will be a good chinny mom Answer: Sorry that I can't help you with anything. But Good LUck!!!! Later remember to post some pictures of the baby!! Answer: Good luck and I hope it all turns out for the best. Is the mother chin a mommy for the first time? I have heard that it might take new mommy's a little time to get their milk in. Also I don't suppose you have any other nursing females that could possibly adopt this little one...that would be much easier on you. I am sure you are doing a great job and I am hoping for the best Answer: i dont have any advice either but i wish you the best of luck Red Answer: Is the mom at least keeping the kit warm or do you need to give it a heating pad? What are you using to feed the kit? I have seen many recommendations out there for a kit formula. We like to use "Just Born kitten powder" with a little Nutri-Cal heated up to luke warm and feed a few drops, one drop at a time, every 2 hours the first day, every 3 hours the second day, every 4 hours the 3rd day.... I have seen evaporated and cow's milk suggested, but Alice Kline says not to use canned evaporated milk. Answer: Red, Goat's milk seems to be the consensus when handfeeding kits. Follow the directions on the can. Good luck handfeeding your wee one. Congrats to you! Answer: Most breeders that I know use goat's milk with 50% water and a pinch of baby cereal. The kit needs to be fed every 2 hours around the clock. If mom isn't keeping the kit warm, you will have to do that as well. Finally, you will likely need to "potty" the kit by gently rubbing the anus with a warm cloth. This will stimulate bodily functions. Answer: You can use any of the suggested above, I personally use Whole milk with a tiny bit of Dyne mixed in. Also keep a weight check on the kit, mom's milk will eventually come in, to help it along offer her some apple or Cranberry juice. The more she drinks the more it helps her to produce milk. If it's just one kit she will have an easier time feeding it. Keep the kit with mom and watch for him/her to nurse. Keep us posted and congratulations! Answer: Marla, where do you get Dyne? I have seen several people refer to it but I've never seen it. What is it usually used for? Answer: Originally Posted by Candycane Marla, where do you get Dyne? I bought mine through Alice Kline a while back, but theres a girl Pamela aka Chincolors I think who sells something similar. I have also searched for it on the internet and found it through many online stores. here is one place for a good price http://www.gundogsupply.com/dynhigcalliq.html Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
