Angel will be taking human meds

Question:
It's been over a month and Angel's eye infection still hasn't cleared up all the way. My vet prescribed a human antibiotic for the bacterial infection and 500 mg of lysine for the herpes virus. I sure hope this works.

Answer:
I'd missed your original post about Angel. Bless you for taking him in and taking such good care of him! That's too bad that his eye hasn't healed completely - hopefully this new med will do the trick.

Answer:
The lysine should make a huge difference with the herpes. What is the name of the human antibiotic? Most of the antibiotics that our pets get are forms of human antibiotics, like amoxillin. I remember taking it as a kid and I hated it. The smell still makes me gag.

Good luck. I hope that Angel's eye clears up.

Answer:
The name of the antibiotic ends in -mycin, but I'll have to check that when I get home tonight. I'm having a hard time getting the meds and lysine in him. 500 mg is a lot. I've been mixing it in chicken broth. Sometimes he will eat some of it but not all. Other times he is just not hungry. At any rate, I'm going to do everything I can to get this kitty 100% healthy.

Answer:
It's probably erythromycin. It is commonly used for eye infections in cats. My female, Sydney, had an eye infection awhile back and the erythromycin did wonders! She looked 100 times better after just 12 hours.

Could you try mixing the lysine with some wet food?

I remember that it isn't erythromycin. I think it starts with "A" and I'm pretty sure it has the letter "X" in the name. It is a pink cherry flavored liquid that they mixed up at the pharmacy when I got there. Angel won't eat wet cat food but I mixed some lysine in canned chicken today. The pet stores around here don't sell California Natural or Canidae. If they did I would try their canned kitty food.

Answer:
azithromycin?? That's Zithromax for humans.

Answer:
What do the pet stores around you sell? As far as wet food goes, Nutro is pretty good too.

Thanks. I'll see if I can find some canned Nutro and try that.
