Sweetpea earns a new name!

Question:
I had a terrible scare today! Little Sweetpea managed to escape out of the cage. I went into the room and Ginger was frantically jumping around trying to climb the sides of the cage. I was so upset because I couldn't see him anywhere. I finally found him underneath the cage and had one heck of a time getting him out as it is a big cage on casters. I was so afraid to move the cage and roll over him. I was in tears and frantic. The floor is so cold downstairs. Luckily I had been checking on them all day and he only could have been out for a few minutes. I finally got him out and then had to try and figure out how he got out. The cage is completely covered with 1/4"x 1/4" wire but up near the top there is an opening where the door clasp attaches about 1" wide.
That little bum climbed up the chew toy and went out the opening
I still can't believe a day old chin could climb up that chew toy and escape.
I'm taking no more chances. I have moved Ginger and little Houdini into a safer cage with nothing for them to climb up or onto!
My poor heart...I think I just aged 10 years!

Answer:
Pam, I know how you felt. Sebastian escaped from a maternity cage when he was 2 days old! There was a small gap between the tray and the cage and he managed to squeeze through it. Tweety was acting very nervous and I didn't know why until Dave said "Sebastian is gone"! I completely freaked! Dave ended up finding him underneath the sofa. After that incident, I had to prop up the tray with heavy books so there was no gap.

I think Sweetpea's name fits him perfectly.

Answer:
oh my, that would have been scary!! Im glad you found him and he was fine!!!

Answer:
Pam, that happened to me once too! I was using that basic Hagen cage and the 2 day old chins were climbing up the side of the cage and out the slightly wider opening around the top edges. I ended up having to move the cage into the bathroom until I figured out how they were getting out and then got some wire and wraped it around the wider bars. I almost had a heart attack too, they hid under my dresser that had a closed front but an opening at the back.

Answer:
That little bugger

Answer:
That must have been quite a scare. I remember with my first litter I didn't even know she had given birth until I saw a baby running around my room
