Our Introduction Method
Question: There was a post on another forum about introducing trios. I know a lot of the members do the smoosh method, I thought I would post a couple photos of the intro cage Tim made for us. We've used it successfully for both pairs and trios. It's not pretty, but it gets the job done. We've had nothing but success with it. We put a pan under it, and put bedding down so their not on the wire and let them be till their ready. Answer: Tanya, that is great the intro cage works for you. It makes things so much easier doesn't it? Answer: Do they ever try to bite each other thru the bars? I remember when I put two of my cages too close and Pablo got a scraped nose (poor baby).. Answer: "Smoosh method?" That looks like it would work nicely. (Your cage.) I let them run around the chin room together (chin safe) and watch them closely (sp?). I then put them close to each other near me watching what they do. I help them get along...I then see how they are in a cage together and if they are good together I leave them but keep a close eye on them all day making sure no one is beaing meant o the other or anything. If they don't get along I let them run around in the room more and more and repeat the process until they do. But then there are the chins that just never get along, so they aren't put together... Answer: I can imagine there would be a bit of spraying and nipping at each other, but the small space would limit any real ability to fight. Yes, some chinchillas will never get along with each other, but I can certainly see Tanya's little cage working well. Did you put it together from bits of other cages? Answer: We haven't had a problem with any bites with it. The bars are just wide enough that they can poke through a bit, but most just either run to the other end or bark, we haven't had any problems with bites The cage definately takes away from worrying about a real scuffle and flying fur. I feel much more comfortable doing it this way than letting them run about or swapping cages. The prospective cage they'll be going into get a good scrubbing. Kreenish, Yes, it is actually 2 rabbit cages that tim made into one intro cage. Answer: I have heard of the smoosh method, but I'm not that familiar with it. Could someone please give me the official description of how it works? Thanks! Kristine Answer: I like the intro cage, I hope you do not mind if I model it and make one of my own. Answer: We too use a cage similar to Tanya/McCaille's. It has always worked well for us. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
