What kind of bedding do you use?

Question:
I know this topic has been discussed many times but I thought I would bring it up again seeing how we have many new members.

I am seriously contemplating going back to kiln dried pine. I am spending a lot of money on Cell Sorb. I really like it but spending $75 every two months is a bit outrageous. I can't stand Carefresh because it gets soggy.

Answer:
I actually use a mix of two beddings. I use Carefresh as a base and aspen shavings on top of that. I find the carefresh does a great job at absorbing urine, but I didn't like the smell of it. Since I've used both beddings together I can go longer between cage cleanings (I usually don't anyway...I change everything once a week still) and the top layer the girls walk on stays much fresher and dryer.

Answer:
We use...(had to go check the bag...hehe) Kiln Dried Pine & Spruce Shavings. We can get it at the feed store near my granny's house for $4-something for a 10cubic foot bag. We've been using it since day one and never had any problems with it.

Answer:
Okay, someone needs to tell me that spending $75 every two months for 80 pounds of bedding is ridiculous. Dave says it is outrageous and my money can be better spent somewhere else.

Answer:
I use newspaper in the bottom of my melamine cages because the chins are not in contact with it, and you can't get much cheaper than free! I use pine shavings in the wire cages. In fact, I just bought a truly giant bag of pine shavings at Wal-mart today (so big that I had to drag it through the store) for only $7 something. That's the cheapest I've found.

Answer:
I use kiln dried pine shavings but I have to clean the cages every 5 days to keep the odor down.

Answer:
That is outrageous Denise. I use kiln dried pine from the feed store and it costs $6 for a huge bag.

Answer:
I get the Aspen shavings that are available at Pam's store. It's a decent price, though every time we order two of the smaller bags, Pam says "I wish I had the big bags..."

Answer:
I use kiln dried pine shavings, I get a 10 cubic ft bag at the feed store for 4.99 a bag and only have to clean cages once a week, however most of my cages only have one chin in them.

Answer:
I used to use aspen but I just can't afford it as I go through way to much now. I've switched to kiln dried pine. I kind I get is quite fine bits but not dusty. It seems to absorb very well. With the bigger piece shavings I had to change more often.
