Bad Mouse/ Lucky Mouse/ Mouse Redeemed

Question:
Mouse- the cat- evil white devil that she is- knocked over the rescue girls this morning. These four fat girl mice came to me in a SAM cage with all their towers and extra wheels and fancy stuff. It's a little top heavy, perhaps- and Mouse- evil white cat- sends them SPLAT! to the floor just as I was walking into the room. The cage sits on top of a bookshelf- and there's an eye-hook in the wall behind it that is SUPPOSED to be there to hook the bungee cord to it that wraps around the cage so it doesn't get knocked off. Good in theory- right? If the last person to move their cage (not me!!!) had hooked the bungee cord back on. So... anyway... Mouse cage hits the floor- Mouse the cat runs like a scalded dog- and I am panicking. Eileen is still in one of the towers- safe. Evonna is inside the wheel that got broken off- but safe- Italy landed in an empty bin next to the shelf that serves as playpen/cagecleaning time confinement for all the mice in turns- startled, but safe. Isabelle? No where. Not a trace.
It might be good here to tell you that the mice all live in my dining room/office along with Picasso the Guinea Pig on the dining room table and Possum the dwarf hamster on my desk. UNDER the table- there are bins of supplies, bags of hay, tons of heavy things that I have to pull out and carefully look around and under- hoping I don't squish Izzy in the process- wherever she might me.
Still, no Izzy. I am starting to feel bad now. Really bad. Maybe pets in my house are doomed.
I Move on to the kitchen- moving huge appliances- no Izzy. In the den- moving furniture- no Izzy. Found my carkeys, though.
Then I hear a YIP! from the bedroom where I had locked the cats and the puppy until I found Isabelle. Hearing Natalie, the puppy, cry out in pain is usually preceeded by her barking at Booger resulting in Booger giving her a warning swat. There had been no barking. I go to investigate.
Booger and Hermie are on the bed, bathing each other in complete oblivion to the crisis at hand. Natalie is hiding under the chair- and Mouse is sitting in front of the open closet door glaring at Natalie in all Fierceness. This is quite strange- Natalie and Mouse are big buddies- partners in crime- Mouse has never turned on Natalie before. But sitting behind Mouse, inside the closet- in the middle of the floor washing her face and ears- was Isabelle. Mouse was protecting her! Keeping Natalie away from her! And Mouse just stepped aside and let me pick Izzy up!
So, Isabelle was perfectly fine- had gotten from one end of the house to the other and didn't seem to think anything was amiss, though her sisters were glad she was back and stopped running around frantically in the cage looking for her.
And Mouse- the culprit turned heroine- I couldn't praise TOO much- because she DID do something wrong, but I was proud of her. Out of all my cats- she is the only one that I really worried might eat a rodent if it got out- and she KNEW somehow- that she had to make sure Isabelle didn't get hurt!
Did I mention all that happened at 6 in the morning? Great way to start a day!
