playing or fighting?

Question:
I cant figure out whether these two are fighting or playing.
They were introduced about a month and a half ago but they started staying in the same room about a week ago. They would fight all the time the first 3 days but after that they were fine during the day. Once night comes they tend to fight. It's only like 3 fights that they have each day. I've been letting them do it until I see that one is being too rough. Should I let them do what they want to each other or should I stop them or should I just keep doing what I'm doing (which is letting them until they get too rough)?

Answer:
Sometimes they do get along as you can see from this dark picture that I took a few minutes ago.

Answer:
Very pretty cats you have there

Answer:
thank you

Answer:
Beautiful Kitties

As for whether its play fighting or not, do they make any noises such as growling etc... and how long do the fights last? Real fighting tends to have a lot of growling and wailing noises and tends to be very very rough and once latched on they don't let go normally and are rolling round in a ball for ages or it has been so in my experience. Its normally all about territory as cats are territorial and someones gotta be the boss I'd keep an eye on them it doesn't look too serious to me especially as they can get along as shown in the last two pictures but worth keeping your eye on

Answer:
looks like playing to me, especially if both have ears and other extremities in tact afterwards! real fighting would draw blood and be really nasty..

Answer:
They have NEVER hissed at each other or growled...except one time at the shelter when they met. Sky hissed at Simba because he licked her. The fights last less than 5 minutes sometimes (this includes all the chasing). Sometimes it'll last longer but they have never gotten hurt from it. Sometimes I hear one of them scream in pain but I never see anything when I check over them.

Answer:
then i say play.

i've never known cats to fight without making LOTS of noise..without even touching each other it sounds like one or both is dying..it's terrible...

though, worse, i think, is mating..oh my lord that's horrible!

but playing can get really rough sometimes, but lots of times, afterward, you may see them grooming each other or snuggled up together..

Answer:
It's play behaviour... and from the pictures the orange tabby is trying to be 'top cat'.. see his paw on her back? My cats do the same thing every day..

Answer:
yeah, the orange tabby is always in the dominant position...that's too cute...i want another kitty!!!
