Chloe has ear mites
Question: We took Chloe is for her booster shot yesterday and the Vet looks at her first thing and says "this cat has ear mites." I was like how can you tell so he kind of squishes her ear and she starts kicking with her foot. Then he takes a q-tip, sticks it in her ear and pulls out these gross looking brown things. I was kind of creeped out, he said chances are Brindle(our older cat) doesn't have them because Chloe has not been around her much. So he gave Chloe some medicine and now I have to put baby oil in her ear every Sunday for the next 6 weeks. I really hope it can't spread to my other animals, that could be expensive to treat 4 other animals, considering it was $10 for a tiny one use tube for Chloe. She seems fine now though and eats so much, and the lady we adopted her from is also paying to have her spayed which I think is super nice. Answer: Be prepared for large vet bills if you have 4 other animals. If it's not mites, something down the road will come up and you're going to have to be prepared. A lot of kittens end up with ear mites, especially if they are born outside. Good luck with the treatment. Depending on where you live (and if the cats go outside), you might want to consider a preventative treatment like Frontline. Answer: One of my cats has ear mites. She's had them since I adopted her 2 months ago and they haven't completely gone away. I do have her with my other cat and so far he hasn't gotten them. Good luck on having them cleared off. Especially when you get BIG chunks of mites out.. I know I'm weird.. I'd keep an eye on your other cat.. if they are even in contact with the same sleeping spots your other cat could catch them.. now that you know what to look for in the ear canal it'll be easy to catch.. Answer: I love cleaning my cat's ears too...it's kind of fun in a way. But having to do it for 2 months because the vet can't give me a medicine that works is frustrating. Answer: What did the Vet give you? We use Otomite at the shelter and it usually takes 2 treatments (sometimes 3 in really bad cases) and then it's cleared up.. Answer: He gave me a one time treatment medicine, don't know the name of it because he put it on her at the vet clinic, he said then to put baby oil in her ear to fluch it out. Answer: My vet gave me Revolution which is for mites, fleas, and ticks and Tresaderm. She had given me some other drops before but I don't recall the name of them. But the other drops did nothing at all. It's barely clearing up with the treatments she just gave me. But it's taken a month with those treatments alone so it's been over 2 months all together. I know they have pretty good stuff at the shelter she was adopted from to clear it up since I volunteer there but I didn't want to bother them after adopting her so they can put some on her. It's too far either way. What they put on them clears the mites out in a day or two and it only takes one treatment. Answer: Originally Posted by suzoo I LOVE doing earmite treatments! I had to clean my parent's cat's ears because they had quite a buildup of earwax when they were little. I got such satisfaction from getting rid of the wax! To this day, I still have an obession with ear wax, that is why I bought an earscope so I can look in Dave's ears. Answer: Yay! I'm not the only weirdo on POTN! Thanks, D!
