My cat has seizers
Question: I just found out from our vet yesterday that one of my cats has been having seizers. He was having what appeared to be caughing spells where his sides would puff out and he didnt appear to be breathing. During these he never would caugh anything up either. Then after he caught his breath again he would want to eat. The vet said that it is likely that he gets hungry after a seizer because it will stimulate the pituitary gland. Everytime he did this it scared me so bad. I dont know what I would do with out him. I've had him for almost 11 years now. But so anyway the vet told us this is not life threatening, so that is a relief. I'm glad to know what is actually going on with him when that happens. The vet said besides that he appears to be a very healthy cat so that makes me feel better. I just hope they dont get bad. Do any of you have a cat that has seizers? Answer: Did the Vet prescribe meds for him or are they fairly infrequent? Answer: Hey Suzoo, No the vet didnt prescribe any meds because they dont last very long and dont happen all the time. He said that he didnt want to start on medicine unless they get bad like lasting 15 mins to half hour. So far I think they have been around 5. He said that if he was given medicine while they are mild. He said that once a cat is taken off of the meds it makes them more sensitive to having more seizers, so basically he said my cat wasnt to the point of needing them yet. Answer: That makes sense.. hopefully your cat won't get to that point. Answer: I hope not too. I dont want him to have to go through that. It would break my heart too if anything was to happen to him. I love that cat. Answer: Do you know what starts them? I've had my cat for 5 yrs, it Absynian (sp?) and Drawf Tabby Mix.
