My cat was killed by a coyote

Question:
I am soooooo sad right now. I hand fed this little baby kitten 3 years ago. He was not expected to live. He still had his umbilical cord attached when I volunteered to hand feed him. He responded well to my round the clock care.
He grew and grew. He became the most beautiful tan tabby. He had a bottom lip that hanged down a bit and everyone said " I have never seen a cat with lips like those". I was so happy with Franklin. He would follow me to the bathtub, the shower, the make-up mirror. He actually trusted me soooo much that he followed me into the shower one morning. Last night he went out the cat door
that I always lock at dusk. I thought my husband closed the garage, so I didn't worry when I heard some howling outside. (We live way out in the country.)
I am very cautious about my pets and I heard stories about coyotes killing domestic pets. When I went to check all the doors before I go to bed, I noticed the cat door wasn't locked. I immediately opened the door to find the garage still open. It was 10:30 pm. Franklin was gone. My dog went crazy with his barking and running around outside. He could smell another animal out there.
I have only had 3 hours sleep in the past 24 hours. I feel so empty and lost.
AND OUT OF CONTROL WITH EMOTIONS. I let Franklin down by not closing the cat door and by raising him to be so trusting and loving. He would lay down and play with any dog that approached him. He loved EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. Please give me some suggestions to do with all this grieve.
I feel like I'm dying inside.

Answer:
Im so sorry of your terrible loss.
Maybe you can take some time to talk about it with close friends or family and go out and so something to pass the time with those friends. Loss of a special animal or person in your life never gets easier. But in time, accepting the loss through grieving is what best can be done.
Keep yourself busy and take time out to cry, it helps.
Huge hugs.

Answer:
Thanks for the quick reply. I am going to try to get some sleep. I have never taken a tylenol pm before. My friend suggest that I take one because I can't rest. I hope I can keep busy. I am very glad I found this forum. I think that it will help me and maybe I can help someone else some day. After I get over this psycho mode.

Answer:
i am so very sorry. many of us make simple human mistakes that cause something bad to happen. we all make mistakes. your kitty knew that you wouldn't ever do anything to hurt him. he knew he was very loved.

Answer:
Oh, Bethy I am so sorry that this happened. When we try as hard as we can to take care of our furbabies, there is still the possibility that something bad can happen. Please don't feel bad. You were a wonderful, loving meowmy for Franklin and if it weren't for you he wouldn't have been able to enjoy the past 3 years. You are in my prayers.

Answer:
I'm so sorry for your loss. I can understand the pain and guilt that you must feel. I had to have my 3 year old male cat put to sleep (after months of trying to make him well) and I still feel guilty for it. Time is the only thing that makes it a little better. We are here for you!

Answer:
I'm sorry for your loss Beth. When I was younger the same thing happened to our cat when she was pregnant. It was hard to deal with because she was such a sweet cat and we were looking forward to her kittens. Having a little ceremony for Franklin will help you gain some closure.

Answer:
I have the same problem here where I live, I've lost 3 to coyote's and one to a truck. At least I believe they are coyote's. There's lots of cats going missing here but we also have lynx around too. It's very hard. My cats come from a house of about 60 cats and 20 dogs, so they too are very trusting of dogs and have no fear of them. Let's pray that if Franklin did lay down to play with the coyote that he went very quickly. I hope my kitties went quickly with no suffering too. The not knowing is the worst. We also have racoons and I think I heard recently that they'll take a cat too? I didn't know that. I would keep them inside but they've been outdoor cats all their lives and they'd go crazy if they couldn't get out.
