Chin mom acting weird

Question:
Of course, Lily would start acting up in the middle of the night when no one's online...but it seems like she's avoiding her kits. I heard them calling out for her and everything. Does she just want a little break? She's been a great mom so far, no problems-but she's starting to be quite ugly both to me and the babies Maybe she's mad about the maternity cage??? The kits are still gaining weight though, so I don't really know what I can do.

Answer:
Carla, is Lily used to a big cage? If so, that could very well be the problem and I can relate. Every time Delilah had kits she would be content in the maternity cage for about a week or two and after that she desperately wanted to get out! She was used to an ample sized cage and to be put into a cage that would be considered the size of a shoebox (to her standards) and taking care of kits always took a toll on her. She was always a great mum but putting her in that cage was not a happy experience for her.

Answer:
Have you given the mother a little time (like 15 mins) to herself each day? We usually let raven out for a bit to stretch her legs and run around the playpen without the babies following her and squeaking at her. She too is very used to a big cage and I know the maternity cage feels small to her so I give her periodic breaks...it seems to reenergize her and she settles right down with the babies when she gets back in.
Good luck and let us know how she is doing.

Answer:
Yeah, she's used to a big cage-I'll try letting her out more

Answer:
Hope that helps her

Answer:
she's just being such a mean cow-I'll be happy when the babies are weaned and she's back in her big cage. Maybe I'll get some rest then, everytime I hear a baby squeak-I run in there to check on them

Answer:
I'm not sure of your set up, but in my cage Mirage has a shelf which she can sit up on that the babies can't reach -yet. This gives a chance to escape from them every now and then when I'm not around to take them from her

Answer:
I had a sleep-n-ledge in with her, but she kept pushing the babies off, so I took it out.

Answer:
Are the babies gaining weight?

Answer:
Yeah, they are gaining well, she seems to be doing better now. She was just ticked about something-so I let her out and slipped her an extra raisin, and now I seem to be in her good graces. She's taking care of the babies again
