Servals?
Question: Hi everyone! I am very fascinated by Servals. I want to know as much about them as I can because some day I plan to get one! Not in the near future of course, but some day . Can anybody help me out? I'm in Canada, I heard that you need speacial permits to keep them? Oh, well I let the experts fill me in on that Thanks guys! Lacy Answer: They certainly are beautiful animals. I know nothing about them, but maybe if I got one it would cure Sadie of her bad litterbox habits....................... Answer: ummm, what is a serval? Answer: Ok, I just looked them up, beautiful! But can you actually own one as a pet? My ex and I had a siberian lynx kitten on hold, I know, dumb, but I'm all grown up now.....we needed a breeding permit to get him. Also we were supposed to have two, a male and a female in order for the permit to be legit. I now don't think it was a good idea. We went to the "farm" and picked out the parents we wanted and then the owners bred them to get our kitten. We never did get him, long sad story, but I'm glad we didn't. I think the "farm" was a fur farm (they also had beatiful foxes, etc) and the cages were very tiny considering the size of the cats and they were doing that back and forth crazy thing they do when caged. I think if you want one of these kitties, please make sure it can be domesticated and it can live comfortably within your home. Answer: Lacy - there is a serval breeder in Nanaimo http://members.shaw.ca/vklassen/ingrid/home2.htm their phone number is listed on their website. You could probably call them and ask all kinds of questions, and maybe they will even let you visit, who knows. Answer: Thank you so much Laurie! Yes Servals can be demestocated and be kept as pets, just like the lynxes. Lacy Answer: Now I just need to get a job............ LOL Lacy Answer: I'm sorry, but I just don't understand...why go to the trouble and expense of getting an exotic cat from a breeder when there are so many cats in shelters, being killed every day, for lack of good homes? Answer: I agree Bridget, but I also understand the fascination with them. Every one of my animals, except the gliders, are abandoned animals. Right down to our little hampster. And although I love these exotic cats I'm truly glad our plans for the little lynx didn't work out. It wouldn't have been fair to the lynx kitten to not live in freedom although, at the time, I thought it would be better than the little cage he was going to get....... Lacy, if your heart is truly set on having one of these cats, maybe if you're willing to spend the money on getting one, you could wait and spend your money on rehoming and shipping an abandoned one?
