I highly recommend The Other End of the Leash by Patricia McConnell Ph.D. What an amazing and eye-opening book! I was pleased to see I was doing some things right as far as training but was deeply hurt when I realized I was doing plenty of things wrong too.
This is like a bible for dog owners. If you have the opportunity, please do yourself, and your dog(s) a favor and read this fantastic book.
