Emily's at the vet

Question:
I dropped Emily off at the vets today to get spayed. I know its best for her, but I have this knot in my stomach. Poor thing. She looked so sad when they took her out of the room. We've only had her for a week, so she probably thinks we left her for good. But we get to go pick her up at 3:30, and I can call after 1 to see how she's doing. They're also going to microchip her and do her nails. And they're doing some blood work to check her out for any unseen issues.

So we'll make sure she really takes it easy over the next few days, but does anyone else have any tips on how to make her feel better and as comfortable as possible?

Answer:
ahhh,,,its only natural to worry about them

its good shes getting all the extras done to make sure shes fit and healthy

id just try to keep her as comfortable as can be,,she'll let you know what she wants or doesnt want,,,,she'll be back to her old self in no time at all,,its amazing how quickly they bounce back

Answer:
Well unfortunatly things aren't going smoothly. They did her blood work, and everything came back fine and healthy, except that she had low platelettes, which means that she has a hard time clotting her blood. But they did another test and determined that she was safe for surgery. So I called about 2 after she was out, and they told me she was good and to come pick her up after 3:30. I got there about 4, and the AHT saw me and called out that Emily did good and she was just going to go load her into her kennel. But after a few minutes I saw her carrying Emily into the back. Shortly after I was called to go back there.

Emily was on an exam table, and completly out of it, like a zombie. I guess that because of the scar tissue from her c-sections and her low platelettes, she had bled alot more then they liked during the surgery. But they managed and she was okay. They were happy that we had the surgery done, as her utereus was really bad and a breeding ground for cancer. This will hopefully majorally reduce her risk of uterine cancer. And then she was fine even minutes before I got there. But then she crashed. So they're keeping her overnight and putting her on an IV to stabelize her. If this was to happen, I'm happy that it did at that time, another 15min and I would've been driving home with her and may not have noticed right away. So the vet will call me tomorrow and we can go pick her up. But we have to be extra cautious with her. No activity at all for at least 5 days. And we have to keep a really close eye on her.

So she should be fine, but I'm still worried about her. The house seemed so empty and quiet when I got home. Its only been a week, but she's already made an imprint on our home, lives and hearts. So keep your fingers crossed for her.

Answer:
Poor thing! I hope she gets home soon and I'm glad too that she was still at the vets when she crashed. I would have freaked! Keep us posted on Emily's progress.

Answer:
I know you are worried about her- and lonely tonight with her gone. Pagan was just spayed not two weeks ago and it was the longest 24hrs ever- they automatically keep them overnight there. She is in the best place she could be right now with everyone keeping an eye on her, though I know it's going to be a long night for you. Hope all is better in the morning and she can come home.

Answer:
Poor Emily! I hope she'll be able to go home tomorrow and will heal up quickly.

Answer:
How is Emily doing today?

Answer:
We spoke to the vet this morning, and they're keeping Emily one more night. She's doing much better, wagging her tail and being responsive, but she's having alot of bleeding, so they want to play it safe. Hopefully she'll come home tomorrow. I'm waiting for the vet to call me now to let me know how she's doing and if we can bring her home tomorrow. But this morning they sounded pretty optimistic, so we have our fingers crossed!

Answer:
I'm glad to hear some positive news!
