Oh my God did I have a heavenly day! Dave and I spent over 3 hours at the breeders house holding, kissing, hugging, and playing with the pups. These pups have already been branded as championship puppies and it shows! They are absolutely stunning and just downright adorable. Dave fell in love with a chunky male named "Elmo". Elmo had the best markings and such a big boy! He didn't have a home yet either. We were so tempted to take him home. The breeder said not to worry because they don't plan on giving up breeding anytime soon. **PHEW** We learned a lot more about the breed, how he and his wife got into breeding, obedience, diet, etc.
The breeder actually went undercover to bust a major dog fighting ring across the states! It even made news headlines. He said what he witnessed left him with nightmares. It was very hard for him to stand back and watch these beautiful dogs fight to the death. The people that were indicted were policemen and mayors of a few large cities to name a few.
We also saw one of his gorgeous females demonstrate obedience training. This dog has won major awards for obedience and the love and patience that went into this dog shows. Dave and I were both amazed at how well trained she is. This dog is also a therapy dog and has the sweetest temperament I have ever seen in a dog. The breeder said when he takes her for walks people purposely cross the street because her appearance is so menacing. If only these people knew how gentle she is! I was able to pet every single part of her body, she even let me open her mouth and look at her teeth. What a big baby. I was laughing because as I was man handling her I looked at the breeder and said, "God, what a ferocious animal. It is no wonder they want to ban these animals".
The price for championship puppies from this breeder is $1,200. Considering the pups come from championship bloodlines, have been guaranteed against hip dysplasia, and bred for temperament, I think it is a small price to pay for such an amazing animal. The best part is the breeder said Dave and I can come back anytime we want to get our "Am Staff fix".
I am still on cloud 9!!

This breeder sounds wonderful! Does he sometimes get discouraged by some of the shady am. staff breeders? You know the ones...they have mean sounding kennel names and always show pics of their dogs on chains snarling.
They are such a wonderful breed in the right hands. I'll never forget the time I was at a show ringside and several am. staffs were waiting to go in. A couple reached over and started kissing me

Di, we are waiting for Dave's parents to sell their house so we can have a major downpayment. Trust me, my patience is wearing out.

I can imagine Are you going to put yourself on the breeder's list for a puppy? A friend of mine (I bumped into her at Woofstock after having no contact with her for 3 years since high school) was on a waiting list for her pug from the breeder for 6 months.
The chihuahua breeder at Woofstock has a waiting list that's at least 6 months long too.
