Question:
Orion is 4 months old tomorrow!!!!

I have a question! He went to the vet the other day, she weighed him, he is 30 pounds, I asked the vet how big she thinks he is going to be at maturity, she said, you usually double the weight they are at 4 months, then add another 10 lbs. So she thinks he is going to be 60-70 lbs...I don't think that is true... I look at Orion's paws and they are visiablely larger than my 85 pound Apollo...Not significantly larger, but you can tell they are bigger. His legs are also very thick. What do you think? His parents' sizes are unknown because he is a rescue, but he is deffinatly a purebred German Shepherd. I just think 60-70 pounds is not possible, everyone that has seen him says at the very least 80 or 90 pounds.

I agree that he'll likely be larger than the Vet predicted... his paws are huge! My friend's shepherd looked smaller than Orion when she was a puppy and as an adult she's about 80 pounds..

I know it's hard to say without knowing his backround but by the looks of him, he looks as though he'll be a bit bigger than what the vet predicted. Either way, he's a doll!

About the size... it's very hard to predict the size a dog will be, you can only be guided by the breed standards and their parents. For example, Odie is a chihuahua/JRT mix and Charlotte is a lab/whippet mix, and both have same size of paw, but Odie is a bit overweight and weights 20lbs, while Chaly is at her ideal weight and weights 27lbs.

Carolina (beagle/basset) has HUGE paws, about double the size of Valentina's (lab X), Vale weights 39lbs, and I estimate that Caro is around 43, not a huge difference really. These are all full grown dogs.

I kid you not it must have rained 2 feet last night...so little to our knowledge a beautifully large lake of mud had developed in the middle of our lawn...I let Orion out this morning, and when he came to the door to be let back inside, I was greated by a very......dirty surprise.....




...ohh yeah fun stuff....puppy was drenched with mud....

Our Old English Sheepdog used to run into the river where we used to live and it had about a foot of silt. He would come back looking like someone dipped him in black ink. He got very used to being hosed off in the yard
