temperment guarantee

Question:
okay I came across a rotteweilers breeders website, I absolutley love rotties but I know better with kids around, they dont have a whole lot of patience and I do not blame that on the dog,,,,however there will be a day when i will own one, ,,,
these dogs were temperment guaranteed,,,,I thought about it, and thought it was great and decided that when the day comes to buy my rottie I owuld spend the extra money to have a temperment guaranteed one....makes sense,,,
But Craig and my sister n law say they cant advertise its temperment guaranteed,,,,theres no way of them knowing, and whats the limit????
like a Boxer has extremly high tolerance and will take alot of abuse off of kids,,,a rottie usually will not.....so whose temperment do you go by??? is the dog guaranteed not to ever bite???
now I said id would obviously be under certain circumstances,,,,if the dog was being abused, neglected or teased then of course the dog would bite and no the guarantee wouldnt cover that,,,,basically to me the temperment guarantee means if you walk by the dog it will not attack you for no reason or show signs of being vicious,,,,,and to me,,,they can back the guarantee by awesome blood lines, all history of relatives, parents, brothers, sisters ,,etc, etc,,,,
they kinda got me wondering,,,,can people actually charge $200-$500.00 more to temperment guarantee their animals??? and if the dog does attack whether from being abused or just attcks for fun,,who is the judge of this???
i guess I am just wondering what you think of dogs being temperment guaranteed??

Answer:
I think temp gaurantees are just a way for people to make more money. I mean you could take two dogs from the same litter and treat them opposite and have two totally diffrent tempermants.
Are rotty's really not great iwth kids?? My inlaws got a rotty mix when the girls were babies and he's absolutly a doll (hes the only one ive ever had presonal contact with)..
I personally wouldnt pay an extra 200 to 500 for a temp guarantee when I dont think you can ever guarntee the tempermant of any animal.

Answer:
Wow I don't know. Either way I would wonder what they are actually guaranteeing against. Have you thought of writting them and asking, maybe explaining your situation and act as if your interested and see what they say? Because I am curious myself. I think each dog is different even if it's the same breed. My sister has a rottie and her dog is semi friendly to adults. She is good with me but growls at my kids. She hates kids and was not raised around them. My neighbor on the other hand has one and they got her as a pup and they have 4 kids and she is so good with all the kids in the neighborhood. She's a sweetie! So who knows.

Answer:
I don't think that you can guarantee temperment with any breed. And how would the breeder know that the temperment problem was not the owner's fault? If I were a breeder, I don't think that I would ever offer such a guarantee because it would be so hard to distinguish what was natural temperment and what was owner-induced. There are ways to promote good temperment in dogs, which includes culling any breeders that show bad behavior consistently. I think that you would be better off finding a breeder who breeds pet rotties (as opposed to guard dogs) if you are concerned with temperment.

Answer:
yes I used to babysit at a place and they had a rottie,,,,she should have been vicious,,,she was abused,,,kicked,,,,,theres one incident I was there and she alwasy sleptt with their oldest son, well mark the dad came down and seen the dog on the bed, grabbed her and threw her on the floor, Brandy(the dog) got up, growled and started chasing him up the stairs, he of course ran,,I screamed , BRandy get down here now..she came down, licked my hand, cried and looked at me with the saddest eyes i could have ever seen,,Mark came back down after her, I told her to stay, he grabbed her by the collar and tried to move her,,,the collar came off she stodd still,,,,,,,not leaving my side,,,,,
I have witnessed him breaking a broom over her back, broke a dust pan over her head and have seen her get kicked in the stomach on more than one occasion,,,,Brandy should have been mean but she wasnt,,,
I was the only one who paid any attention to her....she was my big baby ...i slept in the basement when I was there, and Brandy alwasy slept on the bed with me,,,never leaving my side, sadly, I moved away and stopped going there, I got a phone call one day from Theresa, the owneer of the dog , and she told me Brandy was dying and aybe I should come say Good bye(she knew i loved her),,,when I got there she was under neath the patio breathing heavily,,,(this was 2 days after I got the call,,,,I had 2 small babies and I lived over 4 hrs away) Theresa said she couldnt get her out, so I crawled under there with her, tlaked to her, cried, and told her I was going out from under the deck and wanted her to come with me,,and with alot of coaxing and loving words she followed me out and gave me a huge kiss,,,,I got her up the stairs and she collasped,,,,,,I was heartbroken and called my dad,,,I used to bring the dog over for the weekend all the time, he knew how much I loved her and anyways after an hr or so, i got her in the house(theresa and mark were not home) I made her a nice comfy bed upstairs and gave her a big kiss good night and told her I would see her in the morning,,,,i knew she would make it through one more night,,,,I woke up the next morning with Brandy in bed with me,,it was awesome,,,Mark said when they got home, Brandy was trying to get down the basement stairs,,her back legs kept giving out but she was determined to make it down to me, Mark helped her down and helped her on the bed with me, the nicest thing he ever did for that poor dog,,,,,
the next day, they took her to out her to sleep,,,I lifted her into the back of the van, crying and she looked up at me and licked my tears away,,,,ever since then I have been hooked on rotties....she was the most amazing dog ever,,,,actually there is a picture of my son Dakin sitting on her back,,,,,,in one of my picture threads,,I miss her so much

Answer:
I completely agree with what Candice said, there is no way to guarantee temperament of any animal when breeding. I get a kick out of these people that put a disclaimer on their website saying, "Specializing in chinchillas with outstanding temperaments". I do think it is wise to breed animals that have good dispositions rather than breeding animals that are aggressive or mean.
When it comes to dogs, there are certain breeds that are not good around children and have special needs or wants when it comes to obedience training but that doesn't necessarily make the breed, a nasty breed of dog.

Answer:
Brandy, maybe the guarantee is for the touchy and temperamental dogs that could result from in-breeding and things like that? On a Yahoo group that I read for Toronto dogs, a person fostering dogs came one home day and her foster had killed another dog and she had her put down. She worked a lot with this dog but something just wasn't right in it's head.
