Dogs & shots

Question:
Well since we brought up the topic with cats. Do you think dogs need their shots every year?
This reminds me I need to take in my dogs in for a check up and for my little puppy to get more shots

Answer:
I know that there are some studies that show yearly vaccinations seem to have a corelation with cancer rates. But if I can prevent my dog from contracting some viral disease, I'd rather take a chance then watch her die at an early age.

Answer:
I never heard of the cancer thing but that is interesting I think I will continue to give my 2 dogs shots per year as they go out everyday and I love taking them to parks where lots of other dogs go, so I think it's better to have their shots for they don't catch anything as I don't want to lose them, especially not this early as they aren't even a 1yr old..

Answer:
I do vaccinate Lavander every year when I go home. But recently with the reports coming out that are opposed to yearly vaccinations really made me think. Vaccinations are basically the bacteria that cause the illness that has been killed (I think) which makes the animal's immune system react and form antibodies right?
Vaccinations could make the animal feel slightly sick until their immune system catches up and forms the antibodies to fight it off. And these antibodies stay in the body for a while around 7 years, I'm not sure on specifics, I still need to do more reading on this. But if they already have the antibodies present, I don't want to keep injecting bacteria into them.
That is only for some types of vaccinations though, there are many different kinds. I guess I will just read up and find out which vaccinations she REALLY needs to take every year, i.e. those where the antibodies don't last as long I guess.

Answer:
Spencer gets his yearly vaccinations. I would consider not giving them to him except he is always in obedience and agility and the schools demand that all dogs have their shots.
If your dog is interacting with a lot of other dogs then I think it is a must. I know I was out walking Spence in the forest and he almost got hold of a fox. That would have been annoying because he would have had to go get another rabies shot
