Collar's or Harnesses?

Question:
Ive got two dogs a german shepard mix and a pom. I currently have them wearing there harness. Ive had them in collars in the past my big boy's collar was ready to be tossed so I just put his harness on him till I can get him another collar but he seems to be loving the harness (usually use it for walks),
My pom I put his harness back on him after going through 4 collars and not finding one small enough that he couldnt get his head out easily.
Im wondering through about them having to wear there harnesses all the time do you think it will be a bother to them? I dont want to not have soemthing on them incase something ever happens and they get out so they have there id tags on.
Should I keep the search for a collar to fit my pom or just leave him in his harness ? What about my big boy would you get him a collar again or just leave him in the harness?

Answer:
I have two small dogs. They both have collars with a ton of ID tags, licences etc. Since my Yorkie is so tiny, I have to buy cat collars for her. When we go for walks I use a harness on her because of the problems with 'collapsing tracheas' on little breeds. On my Pom mix, I use the Lupi harness because she is a bit of a puller. For you, I would recommend a harness & collar for the pom and for your shepherd...if he is enjoying the harness for walking, I'd continue using it. (but I wouldn't keep the harnesses on all the time) I would think it wouldn't be very comfortable to wear 24/7! That's just my humble opinion though!

Answer:
Oh where do you get a decent cat collar? The only ones ive found have been junky ones and the tags fall off before the day's over of the dont clasp right. OH I deffintly use harness on my pom and gsd for walking. I also was thinking they cant be to comfortable all the time but they have been wearing them for 3 days now im still going to look for a new collar (easy for the gsd) but hard to find one decent one for the pom. THey dont seem to be bothered by them so far but I cant see it being good as long time permant thing either, was wondering if I was being to "sensitive" lol. Ill have to keep there harnesses on till I find a new collars for them because I want SOMETHING on them till I get another collar so they have id on at all times.

Answer:
I'm not sure where you live Christy, but I've gotten some really nice ones @ Petsmart & Superpet...
You're not being too sensitive but I'm sure your Pom will be if that harness messes up his hairdo!

Answer:
LOL well he's use to bad do's as "mom" here cuts his hair. I have him partially shaved as he has seziours and in the summer the heat is just way to much on him lol.

Answer:
Christy maybe you could take the harnesses off at night and when you wake up put them back on them?

Answer:
Shannon,
I would but when I get up the boys have to go out NOW, ive tried it and it usually ends up in puddles on the floor lol.
Shadows always crated at night so I dont worry about him getting it caught on anythign and well Grizzly's my old boy and once he's out fo the night he's out so I know there safe with them on at night just thinking its probably not the most comfortable lol.
Im going to look online someone told me about custom collars so im going to check those out.

Answer:
Oh okay, best of luck finding something

Answer:
Good luck and let us know if you find anything!
