Bathing dogs
Question: I am curious to know how often you bathe your dogs? What kind of shampoo do you use? Answer: Well I use an Aloveen oatmeal shampoo....and Biscuit gets washed about once evry three months. As you know Denise, Biscuit is on a barf diet because she has skin issues otherwise. Well, when I was her, she breaks out in dandruff, no matter what I use. So she gets regular brushings and spot cleaning. After the beach we just throw buckets of water on her to get the sand out, we don't actually use shampoo. She never smells, she's never dirty. She actually smells like a dog for about a week after she's been shampoo'd (like that really nasty doggy smell) because the sebacous glands in her skin are working overtime to re-produce the oil she lost and makes her smell. When we have clients come into work that complain cause their dog has doggy odour but they 'wash them every week' we sell them a deoderiser (sp? it's 5.50am!) and tell them to quit bathing their dog! We recommend washing dogs once a month at most! Answer: Carmen, knowing that I certainly won't be bathing our dog (when we get one) like I clean our house! I heard the same thing about ferrets. The more you bathe them, the more they smell because their glands are working overtime. Actually, the same rings true for humans. The more we wash our faces, the oilier it gets because the oil gland are working overtime. Makes sense. Answer: Dante gets a bath umm, when I remember. lol . Once a year or so, unless he's gotten into something. He stays very clean. I know it's time if he actually smells like a dog. I use generic store brand pet shampoo. His coat is so short he doesn't need anything else. Answer: Sasha is 2 yrs old and shes had a total of 2 baths!!! we still use her puppy shampoo on her because its a full bottle,,lol,. its put out by Yamas and is called Natural plant extract shampoo for puppies,,Ive never seen it before but really liked what I read,,,these are the ingredients avocado oil(an active ingredient to prevent skin irritation as well as skin and hair dehydration), lavender(for its antiseptic, healing, stimulating, and odour-fighting properties), henna(fir a softer down),horsetail(for remineralization), and lily of the valley(an antispasmodic for the puppy's nervousness). Answer: oh I lied,,lol, when Sasha got bitten by the spider and broke out in hives ,,she had daily baths with oatmeal!! just to help with the itch Answer: Brandy, that shampoo looks excellent! Sasha must smell wonderful after you use that. I didn't realize you could get away with bathing a dog once a year. See! I learn something new everyday. I need to ask more dog questions. Answer: wow! I'm surprised an dhappy to see that you guys don't overbath your dogs! I was ready for a bit of an ear bashing on how wrong I was! I'm happy now! Oh and I only bath Biscuit once every three months or so cause I do the grooming at work and if I tell clients I wash my dog once a year it's not going to get me much business! My mum's dog get washed when her white bits go yellow! Answer: I use Soothing Relief by Wysong Taz gets a bath 3-4 times a year. Mostly after he swims in mud puddles or something else nasty. The dog LOVES water but since we are fairly land-locked, he makes due with slewy water or puddles. Answer: RSBunny, you are completely right. Overbathing only makes them smell more because of the oil glands. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
