Brought the puppy into the house
Question: Well Ziggy (the Akita puppy we kept--which brings us to 7 dogs, 6 Akitas, 1 Shiba) was brought into the house today. He has come in for a few visits, but I think he's staying in this time. He was being kept in the basement with his 2 sisters (They went to their new homes though a few days ago) because they were getting too big to all be kept in the house. He is in with my mom's boyfriend's Weiner dog (in a crate though--he doesn't live here, but is here a lot.) The Weiner dog, Oscar was growling at Ziggy so we had to keep yelling at him (well my mom and sister were as I can barely talk because of me getting my tonsils removed yesterday). Molly (our oldest, 11 yr. old Akita) and Jewel (our 6 year old Shiba-Inu) were in the house too. Molly and Jewel were put outside though because Molly just was checking him out and Jewel was blocking him and barking at him. She was jealous of all the attention he was getting, but they will be getting introduced gradually and in no time they will be getting along! He turns 2 months old on...today a matter of fact. lol. I will try to get some pics. of them all. He is getting so big already! Answer: Well Corina, off course Oscar was growling at him. If he is an adult dog, he probably doesn't want a puppy crammed in with him. Can't you get him his own crate? I saw pics of him on your website. He's stunning. Answer: I agree with Brenda, why would you put a puppy in with a dog that is older than him? And what is the point of yelling at Oscar? He is only defending his space. You say your mother breeds Akitas? Wouldn't she know something about dog behaviour? Answer: You simply put the older dogs outside? I am confused. Aren't reputable breeders supposed to have the dogs inside in a home set up? Do the house dogs always get shafted when a puppy is brought in? Answer: I don't know the whole situation but I did research Akitas at one time because I fell in love with their gorgeous looks. I think you have to be careful about having too many together because some fight with the same sex. Probably they are rotated. Correct me if I'm wrong Corina. Answer: sounds like you keep them in the basement??? if theres not enough room in your house for some puppies how in the world are you going to set up numerous tanks for your baby dragons? Answer: Sorry OFF TOPIC TOO. Corina I did a search on your mom and she seems like a well respected Akita breeder. In fact, when I did a search it seems your mom used Widow Maker in her breeding? OMG that is one gorgeous Akita!!! Is he still alive? Answer: No, No, No, No, NO. Sorry if it confused you. He IS NOT in the crate with Oscar!! We would never do that! He went up to Oscar's crate. We never put 2 dogs in one crate. We never have, especially with Akitas and the Shiba, seeing they are very dog aggresive. Thanks Brenda. He is getting nicer and nicer. I can't wait to get some pics.! My digital camera is almost dead though. They are rotated and we have BIG pens we paid someone to build a few years ago in the basement...They go outside too, just so you know...One time someone thought that we kept them in the basement all the time and that they were to pee and poop in the basement! That's not the case at all. They cannot all go in the house as they are very large dogs and we can only have so many in the house at a time. They are very dog aggressive...We have 4 large pens in the basement. 2 large crates in the house (our akita Molly is locked up when we are not home because we do not want anything happening between them when we are not home, then we leave the other crate in my mom's room open because she loves sleeping in there.) Then we have 3 large "pens" in the backyard (boy does it cost a lot for the fencing, tarps, dog houses--lol) in the backyard not including the very tiny part blocked off for just another seperation thing (no dogs go in it) and not including the whole big backyard...Good thing we have a big backyard...lol. And we plan on moving soon and getting a lot more space. We want at least 1 acre and we will build a very nice set up thing... We cannot keep them all in the house, they are large dogs, and not all get along with each other. Molly and Sweetie once got along, but were seperated for a few months when Sweetie went to get bred and something happened (I don't remember because I was so young) where the next door neighbor to the person that had Sweetie and her mom (who passed away a few years ago at age 11 due to bloat) claimed they were his and my mom had to go to court bringing puppy pictures and when they got brought back they did not like Molly anymore. So Molly and Sweetie cannot go together. But each dog gets rotated between the house, backyard, and basement (which is not cold and each pen has big comforters, toys, a water bucket) If you have anymore questions you can ask because my mom is a reputable breeder and all of our pets are very well taken care of. And when we go to dog shows our dogs are kept in the hotel....not just in the car or anything either. Answer: Thanks Brenda. She did use Widow Maker x our first akita Abbey I believe she did 2 litters with him. The first litter was of one she kept (Molly) and the 2nd was how we got Sweetie. Sweetie is spayed though and our dog Axel is going to get neutered soon. Tessa we have tried to breed, but she had something when she was younger that I think my mom is going to spay her, but doesn't want to, but feels it's best for her. Molly is just an old girl, shes our guardian. :-P It takes a lot for her to trust new comers, but she has never biten. (None of our dogs have.) And we plan on getting Josie (the Akita that gave birth to the 3 pups) back into shape and once she is we will be showing her again and trying to finish her. Then we might breed her probably the beginning of 2006. We're not sure yet though. And Jewel is my Shiba that is now retired from showing I decided to retire her because she is 6 years old. Once we move I will be getting my Whippet (from my friends in Virginia that I gave my gliders to and they are giving me a Whippet puppy when we tell them we are ready for one!) And then who else...Oh Ziggy--he will be out in the show ring once he is 6 months old!! Answer: Forgot---I don't think Widow Maker is alive anymore...:-/ Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
