Question:
well Ive been reading and reading about the BARF diet,,,yesterday we decided to cook a chicken for supper , it was just a little 5lb chicken so the neck was quite small, I put it in the fridge and didnt cook it!!!

Ive read that kibble and raw food shouldnt be fed in the same meal, so Sasha had her kibble for breakfast(usually all she eats throughout the day anyways) and I left her dish empty, didnt refill it,,,

at supper time, I gave her the neck, she took a bite and all I heard was bones...*gag* then she tried bringing it under the table while we ate,,so I took it and put it outside and she stayed out there and ate it,,,

for the rest of the evening I couldnt stand her near my face, I kept thinking,,GROSS,,,she ate raw meat and it literally made me nauseous,,,anyways around 9 oclock I had to babysit, I got home around midnight and was getting a glass of Pepsi before heading to bed, it was quite dark and I could see Sasha doing something so I turned on the lights and sure enough she was puking all over the kitchen!!! first it was chicken and bones,,I started immediatley gagging and ran for the bathroom, i started throwing up and it woke Craig up, he came in to see whY iw as being sick so late, I told him sasha was in the kitchen throwing up, he went out and put her outside to finish and cleaned up her mess,,,after that I went to bed,,but Craig was up past 1 with her throwing up,

sometime in the night she was sick again, when we woke up this mornng there was vile with a few chunks of bones in it, Craid said last night she even got the dry heeves and would only cough/puke up foam and yellow vile!!!

POOR thing,,,,so Im not sure I can do raw meat, even as a treat,....

omg! i'm sorry, but i just had to <giggle> a little at that! i feel so bad for you!! i can't believe you got sick, too! craig must've thought the whole world turned upside down in the matter of 5 minutes!

you cant believe i got sick to?? LOL all Craig has to do is burp and I can throw up,,lol

seriously i have a WEAK stomach!!!! Craigs used to cleaning up messes,,lol, hes been woken up a many of times to clean up something,,hes used to it, i cant clean my own kids puke,,,and if im sick, it makes me throw up even more to think about me throwing up,,haha

When my dad came to visit me, he had alot of gas(its a long story, theres a thread about it someplace) and anyways he was on the couch and he was farting, I was okay with it ,,I didnt smell anything, and then I started gagging and ran to the bathroom,,i came back out and Craig was laughing at me and dad said "did that one stink?"....I said No but it sounded like it might have and it made me sick to think about it,,LOL

then dad and Craig teased me all night

Brandy, a woman on PT had the same experience with her dog when she fed it raw food for the first time. Sorry your first experience with feeding raw food turned out to be such a disaster.

Sounds like Sasha has a sensitive stomach! Are you going to try semi-cooked food? If you use steam to cook the foods it helps to retain the nutrients better than boiling. Or even pan-frying would work. I've pan-fried (with very little oil) tofu slices for Lavander).

what is the history on the raw food? i'm absolutely no expert, well, at all...but i'm thinking possibly the dog just needs time to adjust...maybe it was a case of too much too soon?

Diana, I didnt cook it, I just gave it to her raw,,,I honestly dont know if I had to put up with her throwing up for a week to get adjusted, I dont think my stomach could handle that!!! and Yes she does have a very sensitive stomach, unfortunately so do I,,so it doesnt help,,lol

Brandy if you wanted to see how could she handle raw food without risking vomit you could try and start her on something easier to digest. Like some meat...just a tiny bit added in with her kibble. Then go out and leave her with craig for a couple of hours! I never had a problem with Biscuit...we made the switch without the bat of an eyelid. The woman on pt that Denise is talking about started by mixing things with kibble and they didn't have much of a problem.

Sounds like there are a couple of reasons for her reaction. It takes about 16 hrs for kibble to pass through, so that may have played a part. Or she could have either eaten it too fast/there was too much bone--if you can work up your courage, maybe try a chicken leg quarter or thigh? Or just some chicken breast? Necks aren't recommended as a major food because it has a very high bone content.
Rereading your post, personally it sounds like she scarfed it down too fast. It's not unusual.

Sorry your first try came out so bad! Maybe give her a ckn quarter one weekend morning and let the hubby keep an eye on her?
