Is there any way to get a dog to stop digging,,,Sasha just started this but its really bugging my landlord that Sasha is digging a hole in his yard and I dont blame him,,the hole is now about 2 ft deep and its around a pole ,,,but its about a foot out on one side and so far the other side isnt very big yet,,I have filled it in once but she keeps going back to the same spot to dig so i was wondering if there was anything i could do to stop her from doing this before I have to replace a lawn,,lol

Digging is usually a sign of boredom for dogs. Is the dog left outside alone for more than 5 or 10 mniutes? Dogs are social, playful creatures, and don't do well being left alone for extended periods of time. Especially outside when there are lots of interesting things on the other side of the fence!
There are usually two suggestions to help solve this problem: 1. Don't leave the dog outside alone! And 2., create an area where it's ok for the dog to dig. Make a sandbox and "bury" treasures, such as bones, treats, and favourite toys. Encourage the dog to dig only in that sandbox. It's self-rewarding, since when the dog digs in the sandbox it finds toys and treats.

my dogs have never really had that problem. when they were puppies they did though some. they just grew out of it and found better things to do. like greencolander said teach them to dig in a sand box or dont leave thema lone. also maybe if u fill the hole with a big rock or somethin to where the dog could not dig.

well she is still a puppy so that could be it I guess,,,,we just ket her out to use the bathroom ,,,,we dont leave her out there all day or anything,,,its hard to always go out with her because I would have to drag the kids out and everything else,,lol,,,,,I dont know if my landlords would appreciate a rock or sandbox on their lawn,,,but maybe I will only let her out for like 5 mins,,,,that way she doesnt have time to dig,,,but when we get our own place the sandbox idea sounds so awesome,,,,thanks

Digging is so much an instinct thing...My 2 little dogs are always digging in the corner of the couch and then they hide their bones or toys under a pillow that's there...it's so weird cause it's a couch! but to them they have to do it I guess...

I'm mad that she digs,,if it was my yard I would let her,,,,I think its hilarious to watch them dig but my landlords get crabby and I understand why,,thats whay i was wondering if there was a way to stop,,,someone told me they grow out of it,,,is this true???

My friend's have 2 german shepherds who LOVE to dig!!! They just let them dig as long is it's in THEIR area of the yard and when it gets too deep we fill it in again and they start over again...these dogs are 5 & 7 years old, so I don't think they outgrow it...you can train them NOT to dig but I personally have no experience with this problem so I can't help you...
I can see your problem seeing it's not your yard but your landlords...my friends rent this house (her mother is the landlord, though) and they have done alot of yard work to improve it, so the only one spot in the yard where the hole is they will fix when they plan to move...
