What could it be?
Question: On Friday Biscuit was scratching her stomach like crazy. I thought it was strange cause she has no fleas what so ever (her and the cat get frontlined every single month and we've never had a flea problem) so I got her to roll over to chack her out. She has a rash all over her stomach. Well I don't know what it is. She has red bumps all over her stomach, in patches, and some of her teats have the red lumps too. My work is closed until Tuesday and she stopped scratching on Friday afternoon, is eating and drinking fine and is full of energy (more than usual). I have no idea what it could be. She's also started scratching her neck, but I can't see anything there. I'll be getting her checked out on Tuesday if the rash/bites haven't gone but cause she is still so happy (temp normal, colour good too) I'm not overly concerned just stumped as to what it could be. I noticed a lot of black ants in the yard yesterday on my poop scoop run....could it be possible that she has been bitten by them (they don't really hurt and she wouldn't move) and had a reaction? I'm ruling out grass allergy cause we've had her for a year and this is the only time she's had this. It's weird....any ideas? She's not scratching her stomach anymore, it doesn't seem to be bothering her now but it doesn't seem to be going away either. Answer: It definitely sounds like some kind of allergic reaction...possibly to the ants. Is there any fertilizer used on your lawn? Answer: no fertiliser. We have a man come and cut the grass every three weeks..we have no plantts, no nothing. We don't have green thumbs so no fertiliser. Answer: Aww, poor Biscuit! I agree with candice, it sounds like an allergic reaction. Please let us know what the vet says Carmen and I hope she gets better. Answer: I agree with the allergic reaction theory. If it's not bothering her anymore then she might be getting over the reaction already. Answer: Alex checked her out this afternoon...after we sorted out the house stuff and said the rash is gone. I have to double check but it has to be at least going away! Answer: i'm so glad lil biscuit is ok! poor baby! give her a big smoochy on the nose for me! Answer: it's back!! She went outside last night and ate a bone, plus was out for a while this morning. She only started scratching this morning though. I put a damp towel over her stomach to absorb the heat and put some human insect bite cream on (I wiped all excess off so she can't lick the stuff, I had nothing else to use and figured it won't hurt her, migh tnot do any good but she won't die from it) and she seems to be more interested in her left ear now than anything. I don't know what's up with her ear...I think I'll clean it out later just incase. I think I might keep her away from the front yard of a morning for a while. It could be mosquito bites..in summer I was attacked by mosquitos every time I went in the front yard....they don't look like mosquito bites look like on humans but I'm not too sure as to what they are meant to look like on a dog! Answer: My dog we found out is allergic to wool. We had a throw rug on the floor that when he laid on it his face got bright red and itchy. Of course since it itched, he rubbed his face on the rug even more (silly dog) so when we figured out what it was we got rid of it. However my vet gave me the over the counter dosage for Benadryl, so if it happened again we could give him some. You may want to call your vet and ask. Answer: I would like to suggest she has a allergic reaction to her food. Though may not be at all true, I would try a whole lamb and rice diet. Previously we had two dogs who could only go on LAmb and rice diet, and only the more expensive brands as they had allergies to something in the other foods we fed them. They got hot spots and were constantly itchy. More so in their lower stomach area where you can see the skin as the hair isnt so thick. Just may be a option to explore. Best wishes!
