Picking up a puppy this Saturday!
Question: I'm getting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel...A Blenheim boy Any tips/things to remember?? It will be a 2 hour car ride home with the new pup so I picked up a few things like a travel water/food dish, a few natural veggie bones to naw on, and a toy... I'm so excited Answer: aw,,I dont have any advice,,but how exciting,,,I hope you post lots of pis of him,,ahve you named him yet? Answer: Yes, his name will be Spencer I will be sure to take a TON of pictures, and of course I will share them with everyone .. Answer: Rincewind has a dog named Spencer too A Vizla if I remember correctly. Have you puppy-proofed your home yet? Also, are you planning to crate train him? What method are you going to use for potty training? I bet you are so excited to be getting him! I can't wait to see pictures Answer: We will get him a crate, we will train him to stay there when we (my family) are busy doing something...My parents are self employed and I work for them (i'm also finishing up my second year of college!!) and the dog will always be in the company of a family member. It will never have time alone As for potty training we will have a spot outside for the pup to get used to. Also we have wee wee pads in case the puppy can't wait (or we can't take him out at that second) and has to go. Only problem I can see with potty training is we have 2 houses (one where we live and one where we work) and the dog's time will be divided between the two (to prevent him from staying home alone)...I hope he can get used to both back yards We don't really need to puppy proof the home because he wont have the run of it until he is older and completely trained. Until then someone will always be around him...The whole point for me is to stop bad behavior (chewing on things he shouldn't be chewing, etc) before he thinks about doing them So yeah...I'll know more on Saturday when we bring the pup home!! Answer: Yay for you! My only advice would be to fill up a container of water from your breeder, and then, when you get home, mix it half and half with your water so he has a chance to adapt to it. Puppies can get the runs from adjusting to new water sources! Have fun! Answer: Congrats Answer: Originally Posted by greencolander Yay for you! I will give the puppy the breeder's water his first day home, then on the second day I will mix...By the third day it will be drinking our purified water Answer: Only one more day to go! I am very excited for you Answer: and your pup shuldnt have any troubles going to the backyard from 2 places,,but as soon as he wakes up take him right outdoors in both places and it wont take him long at all to figure it out,,,,,,,,, Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
